"The invasion of Iraq was neither in self-defense against armed attack nor sanctioned by UN Security Counsel resolution authorizing the use of force by member states and thus constituted the crime of war of aggression, according to the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) in Geneva. A "war waged without a clear mandate from the United Nations Security Council would constitute a flagrant violation of the prohibition of the use of force.” We note with “deep dismay that a small number of states are poised to launch an outright illegal invasion of Iraq, which amounts to a war of aggression."

That means their opinion is interesting but irrelevant.

The bottomline is that there is sufficient ambiguity in the existing UN resolutions re Iraq that one could never prove lack of UN authorization for use of force. Hence no action or admonishment by the UN general assembly or security council (or even attempts, knowing the US would veto them).

No - he is quite right. War crimes are crimes commited as a part of a war. They concern the way the war is waged.

Crimes against peace (different from war crimes, but still prohibited under international law) are what waging a war of aggression is. This is defined under the Nuremberg Principles and the UN charter.

Wait what the fuck did Bush do wrong in the war against terrorism that would justify him being tried for war crimes? Are you guys actually siding with the enemy?

BF2s isn't a big player in my life. That's why I miss out on a lot.

So since I love learning so much (I'm not being sarcastic) why don't you all educate me.

Summary:

Evidence of ties to terrorism was non-existent
Evidence of WMDs was sketchy/fabricated

Real reason for war was probably something to do with oil - since it's where all the money is or just because Saddam was a prick.

That's my take on it anyway.

Bush, blair etc are prima facie guilty of war crimes. if you wanna say they're guilty of crimes against peace too, well, I won't disagree.

Which war crimes?

Give me a specific war crime they are guilty of.

See, it's ironic because it's clear you don't understand what a war crime is. And then you say I need to read the definition of the term. Like you know what the definition is. When you clearly don't.

That's why it's ironic.

Do you need help with the definition of ironic, as well?

no thanks, but I can recommend a good online dictionary if you like. Or even one made of paper.

I suggest you read them.

And since you seem to have found a source for the GC, go ahead and read those too.

Then be sure to show us all how Bush or Blair violated any of the Articles, as Bert has requested.

We'll wait.

I think not. You clearly haven't seen the many other threads on that particular topic. Nor have you read the Articles of the GC that you referenced. Nor have you researched the case law WRT the Guantanamo detainees.

But go ahead. Post your thoughts. Should be entertaining.

a) what you think...I couldn't care less since you've completely failed to read and understand my posts in other threads, no reason this one should be any different.

b) what other threads in this forum say on the topic are completely irrelevant to anything, or are you under the impression that anything ever gets agreed upon here in DS&T or more to the point that what anyone says on any of these threads is the be-all and end-all on any subject. I've read plenty on Guantanamo thanks.

c) I have read the things you say I haven't read. But can I be arsed trying to convince you of that? No. Why not? Because it doesn't matter. Of course I'm sure you're the absolute expert on those things like you are on everything, oh mighty FEOS, I bow my head to your greatness. My answer to the OP was yes, so I've made my little contribution already.

d) Bit busy at the moment tbh so I can't be arsed writing a long post for you to ignore again and accuse me of being subject to propaganda blah blah. But you go ahead on your own if you like. Have fun.

As I suspected. You've got nothing. And still haven't bothered to respond to Bert.

I'll keep waiting.

lmao you have such selective understanding, or should I say a blinkered way of understanding. I did reply to bert. Guantanamo.

Oh, I'm sorry.

I thought you were going to reply with substance and actually address his question.

Nvm. Why would I think that?
