A single-semester is the shortest period of time to learn an academic subject (ignoring quarters - the point remains the term is the basic unit of academic progress) and the semester I have has greatly increased my insights into the matter. I won't try to contend that more schooling and more information will not result in an equivalently intellectual debate, but I think that a one semester course will enhance the discussion because of the profound new insights one gains into the subject matter.nuk did you come on this thread specifically to tell everyone that they need to be looking at the situation from an academic point of view, while at the same time saying that a single semester course is sufficient for "this debate [to] be taken to a real intellectual level"? Oh wait, that wouldn't be because you fall into that very precise level of schooling would it?
My point, then, is that being educated about IR theory helps you significantly when analyzing this issue. I don't have the time to regurgitate what I am telling you to learn nor explain it, because I have an essay due on Tuesday in need of serious revision.DAST is for substance. That means if you want to make a point, you make it. Telling someone to read a book means nothing except you gained nothing of value from your own trip through the book.

Main things that are sold are patriots and a few blackhawks (Used mainly for humanitarian purposes such as search and rescue and dropping supplies).11 Bravo wrote:
i think china is ok to bitch about it. we would bitch if china sold weapons to mexico for example.
Lol punishing US corps that sells weapons to Taiwan. I'm sure Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky stocks will remain high and unaffected. Commies are always idiotic nutjubs as usual."It's time the US was made to feel the heat for the continuing arms sales to Taiwan," said the newspaper, which is run by the People's Daily, the Communist Party's propaganda mouthpiece.
"It would be folly to underestimate Chinese unity over the Taiwan question. Punishing companies that sell weapons to Taiwan is a move that would be supported by most Chinese," it said.

Good professors can work wonders, especially on topic you know nothing about. Stop acting as if your grind fest of math and engineering classes is representative of everyone's college experience.Flaming_Maniac wrote:
I don't know how you can put "single semester" and "profound new insights" in the same block of text with a straight face.
What I said was worth saying. It is not my fault you irrationally refuse to believe it.You have come back to BF2S over and over and over to tell us you don't have the time to say anything substantial. Say something that's worth say or don't say anything at all
Then either say SOMETHING or shut up.nukcheibi0 wrote:

Offensive nuclear missiles are a far cry from SAR helos and defensive (anti-aircraft/missile) missiles.Dilbert_X wrote:

Of course not, there would be no accusations of China interfering with US interests, or threatening the US by proxy...
Double standards and a childish approach to international relations TBH.
Taiwan gets anything that is more than a bullet from the US, China gets bitchy.FEOS wrote:

Get some fucking perspective.
Cuba has MiG-29s. Nobody cares.
Venezuela has Su-27s and is looking to buy Su-30s, or already has. Nobody cares.

Yeah our gov is a serious shithead when it came to NOT changing this =.= Blame the KMT party tbh, coz they're the same fucks who want to unite in China and are responsible with the deaths of thousands (See 228 Massacre).nukchebi0 wrote:

Welcome to my country... Fail gov is fail tbh. Funny thing is the party that drew those claims are the ones wanting to re-unite with China. The pro-independence one just wants Taiwan to be independent, nothing more.CameronPoe wrote:
What exactly is the big deal here? China has a right to complain as much as Russia has a right to complain about a missile defense shield in Poland as much as the US had a right to complain about Cuba deploying soviet-supplied nuclear missiles on its soil. It will only be worth talking about if China actually do something about it i.e., penalise the US financially/economically for their choice of preferred regional ally. Until then it appears to be not much more than hot air.
PS As irrational and ludicrous as it might sound, and I think it has been mentioned a few posts up, Taiwan - the Republic of China as it calls itself - lays constitutional claim to all of mainland China, Tibet and parts of Russia/India/etc. Not exactly a recipe for smooth relations between China and Taiwan to begin with.
I feel like I'm beating a dead horse but.... The Patriot missiles are defensive. The Mid Course Interceptor is defensive. Nuclear weapons are OFFENSIVE.CameronPoe wrote:

The US govt approves export licenses, so its exactly the same.LividBovine wrote:
The difference primarily is that the entities selling to Taiwan are private industries. In the case of China selling to other countries, it is the government that is responsible for the sale.
