uh no
Why not?
Because our only joy in life is to talk about people behind their backs on the internet.
Could we at least get to see our mod notes?
All this secrecy over something so small is kinda pointless don't you think?
just sayin.

Wanting to know about something so small is equally pointless eh?
The mod section is so we can discuss what we're going to do in peace. Publicizing it makes it like it's an open debate or something.

It should be an open debate as the majority are clearly clueless and demonstratively incapable of making sound judgments, lol.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

There in fact are some good ways the site could be changed in regards to moderation. Ya ya, jef can't be arsed and if I like these rules better I can go post there and fuck off anyways...
This would avoid the ongoing problem of mods ignoring the sins of their favorite e buddies and not universally applying the rules in a consistent manner. There would be a whole lot less controversy if you guys didn't periodically make ' make nice ' threads like this and then turn around and be insulting with a user. Oh and mods posting pictures of girls meat curtains and nips? Genius.Q: I received a "Warning" from a Moderator!!! What do I do?
A: If you received a warning and want more info about "Why" you received it... Start a thread and ask the Mod who gave it to you. They can explain their decision to you. If you are not satisfied with their response... You can also put your case to a vote (start a poll and state your case), and let the community decide if it is a "True & Just" Warning. If the community feels you deserved it, then it sticks and you will just have to wait out the Warning perioid until it expires. If the community decides that the Mod was a little too harsh, we can look into removing the warning.
Q: I was banned. What do I do?
A: There are 2 ways to get banned. The first way is the easiest, Fuck with the Admins or post illegal shit (I don't suggest this, because you won't come back if I ban you). The second is to repeatedly break the rules. The Warning System in place here will auto-ban you after you receive 12 Warning points. If you earn a certain number of Warning Points you start losing user privelages also. If you accumulate the 12 points, you will get banned for a period of time. "What do I do?"... Nothing. Wait it out if you weren't permanently banned, then come back after you have learned your lesson. Maybe start a return thread to the effect of "I am back and have seen the error of my ways!".
Do you guys realize the scitsofrenic nature of this shit makes being a mod and/or a user here annoying at times.

I read over these posts again and it confirms what i thought for a while, some bf2s 'mods' aren't fit to be mods. Too fickle nature and a tendency to throw their toys out of the pram at any given opportunity.
What little respect i had for the certain parts of the mod team to begin with has completely diminished. I'm sure a few of you just make it up as you go along.
I do have one relatively small question, how old is FM?
Also, while i'm at it, do you all get behind each other purely for the fact you are the mod team? Or do you actually agree with everything action certain mods perform?

*How fit some of us are to be mods is luckily not decided by the members, it's a reason we got asked ... how we moderate can sometimes be different and sometimes we make mistakes ...baggs wrote:

*We don't need your respect to do our "job" ... what on earth could we possibly do with that respect? ... we try our best to make bf2s a cosy place for everybody and that includes new members, regular members and veterans ... and ourselves ... we are afterall members first and mods second ...
*We are a team and we back eachother, that is only natural ... we do disagree on small matters from time to time but the big issues are pretty much set in stone.
*How is old is FM? ... send him a PM if your curious ...
This thread was started for one reason only, and that is rule #1, really the easiest rule to follow ...

What I don't want to ever have to do is warn anyone or ban anyone for anything. That makes me feel like a dick. Which I'm not.
On the fipside, it's our role to uphold chuy's rules. If we're not doing that or at least trying, then the whole community fails from the inside, out.
Now I don't exactly have the time (nor do any other mods I'm sure), to babysit every thread, research who started what fight, etc. So yeah, sometimes we miss things and put blame on one person, when really someone else started it altogether. That's the benefit of having a warning system in place instead of just banning people like they do on other forums.
Seriously, why can't people just chill out and have fun here. This thread wasn't meant to be a flame war. It was meant to get some unity in the community. Isreal and Pakistan peace type stuff. Am I making any sense here?
Im a lucky fucker me, I log on, read 1st then post, with no worries. I can sit on the fence or side to either side. I can run round saying 'fuck this, fuck that, cunt this cunt that' and just be ME through a keyboard.
I dont have to make decisions in keeping this place as good as it is, checking rules. Having to discuss things with other Mods, I can just spout my harmless bollocks as I always have.
I dont have any issues with any mods because they do a thankless task. They are like a referee. The ref is the most important person in any game, for eg Football.
There you are on a Saturday at the sports ground and ya keeper dont turn up, chuck the gloves to fatty, he'll go in goals, game on.
Next week the Goalie turns up but the ref don't. Game off.
Why this has turned into a thread bashing Mods n what not shows that people have taken things personally.
I have had beef with a Mod in the past but I put it down to a break down in communications as English wasnt his first language.
I cant remember people praising Mods in the same way they criticise them.
If the mods here thought 'fuck this Im off' we would be fucked, you might think ahh cool, but within a month most people here would fuck off elsewhere as it would be like a lawless state. Wether you like it or not we all need discipline and if you cant do it yaself you need someone else to do it for you.
I do hope no one thinks i've taken it personally but i am being honest, which is what i thought the thread was about, right?1927 wrote:

Mods need to be held to account as much as the members, after all the mods said they are a 'member first, mod second'.
No mate not at all. I havent even read what you wrote and I know from words only, you dont take things too serious at all. Im not mentioning names but If I did yours wouldnt crop up.baggs wrote:

The problem for us baggs is when we HAVE to be mods first and then members because of the spam, personal attacks, drunk posting, flame wars, obscene material and general douchebaggery ...baggs wrote:

Clue here is if all members followed rule #1 we wouldn't have to wield the banhammer so often as has been the case lately ...

You should know I think there needs to be mod oversight. I don't think it should be public. Look at this thread - as Jens said, it is a restatement of the first rule of the site and it has turned into "a heated debate" or whatever you want to call this. There is a reason a direct democracy doesn't work. You guys think mod turnaround is slow? Watch how slow it gets when we are dealing with 200 members chiming in for both directions, because believe me, no matter how single-sided you see the issue, there is always someone on the other side.ATG wrote:

I still don't like point systems. But, there are a lot of ways to implement it, and you didn't go into much detail, so maybe. If there was a large incentive for us to shift to such a system so late in the game maybe we could do it manually, without any coding from chuy...
Where/with who exactly is any of this a problem...ATG wrote:

This gets said a lot, but it would be a lot more easy to believe if there weren't people with lots of posts and practically nil mod records. You want the line to be as clear as possible, so that you can ride as closely as you can to it. There is something to be said for defining the line as well as possible, but that's just not how the world works. Not on the internet, not in the workplace, not in the legal system. If you ride the line you're going to get burned from time to time by the frayed edges. There's not much we can do about that.ATG wrote:

I'm not going to act like I'm offended because I'm not, I deal with a lot dumber shit than what you have thrown. Really though, you have gotten pretty personal. "swinging dicks" and whatnot.baggs wrote:

Otherwise Varegg answered swimmingly, though I am 19.
ok ok FM, after all i'm such an unruly member I don't have to agree with what you think as a mod and more often than not i think your actions are totally unjustified (apart from dealing with those who seriousley need a ban, the 'no brainer' disciplinary action so to speak). We can make this personal, it's up to you. Just don't get satirical jibes confused with actual hate.
I don't hate anyone on this forum i just have a simple disregard about how they'll feel when i say what i say to them, i don't take this forum seriousley at all, if i did i'd have been long gone along with the remaining few i'm sure.

Making these occasional ' make nice ' threads do nothing. I have laid out a system that would put to bed many of the issues and would be happy to elaborate, here in public, where all can have a voice.
Short of this new system, discussions of mod actions should NOT be confined to pm's.
TOO OFTEN the mods can say, " well fuck you if you don't like it. "
Polls should be made when a questionable mod action is made and it should be deemed worthy or unworthy by the users so that abusive mods may be subject to public flogging.
As I said in the mod section, covering up gross misbehavior by a mod be it stealing money from members or banning somebody permanently because they are manstrating or having a bad day is what will kill the site faster than anything.
You have your reasons for issuing AWM's and bans, as did I. They often lead to outrage.
I didn't finish my thought and I'm not sure why. I meant to add the sentence "We should have something like an ombudsman if anything.".ATG wrote:

The fact is we they can, but most often we don't. The site, like any other that is run on anything but an absolutely rigid authoritarian system (like a point system very often), is dependent on at least limited moderator autonomy and trustworthiness.ATG wrote:

So lay out a point system, it can't do any harm. Fact is though that while everyone talks about how shitty a job we're doing and how much it's killing the site, there wouldn't be a site in the first place without such a system. The forum grew up around a whole lot of site traffic and the leeway for that traffic to largely say and do as they please. You have chuy's administrative framework and style to thank for that.
That doesn't do anyone any good. "Public flogging" makes more bad blood and doesn't fix anything. Ethical questions should go up, not down the chain.ATG wrote:

ATG - This isnt seemed as negative towards you, or a criticism, just trying to guage how much all this means to you.
Did you used to say these things when you were a Mod?
Before you were a Mod?
I might be a sad fucker in thinking this but Im very sorry that YOU, Baggs and many others are unhappy with certain bits to do with bf2s.com. As I said this place is all about fun and forget the reasons why that isnt happening 100% of the time, it defeats the object.
I hope you can all find a happy medium and enjoy bf2s.com for what it is. Wether your the president, the admin, a mod, a member or an idiot like myself dosent make any difference, log on have fun.

Any system can be abused, point systems included.
Its OK as it is, and thanks to the mods, past and present, for their efforts.

When nobody agreed I kind of created bad blood by doing my own thing, which included public discussion of bans and proposals about changing the site in the Eccetera section.
Admittedly, some of my antics where spawn of boredom.
I think it is fair to say I became somewhat annoying to the other mods by suggesting changes to the way things are done.
Status quo is always an easier go.
I got tired of the complaints from the users and other mods and lost interest in change for the site and just changed my own relationship with it. For all the complaints about ' mod abuse ' I got one pm from somebody asking me ' why don't the mods do something ', or ' ban this douche please '.
I do believe that without some sort of evolution this site is doomed. chuy didn't attempt Trackr for kicks, it is because he too knows that something needs to change.
Is the site attracting many new users?
Does the average new user become a regular active member?
Do we not have a legion of unbanned former regulars who simply drifted away out of frustration and boredom?
No, no and yes.
I for one do not want to be one of the last six or seven people that come here for lack of real friendships in life or for clinging onto a place where you are recognized and have buddies, however few.

Could you help me find some of these calls for change so I/we can look at them again?
No King_County_Downy, having a mod AWM me 5 times in 2 weeks is 'getting all personal up in this bitch'. And you just iterated the problem with the whole system:King_County_Downy wrote:

Had he simply stated his opinion without directly attacking atg, no ban would have happened.
As you can see, even the most lenient of us are getting irritated.
imo.
As every other Mod I never did or have ever had a problem with you. You were the most 'outspoken' (for want of a better word) of the mods and imo clung on to being 'one of the boys', only natural. Its just an opinion and I could be wrong. Having a voice and being big enough to use it is a good skill I reckon, afterall we are all entitled to an opinion providing it dosent stomp over peoples toes you should use it.
I love tradition me. I love routines, its security. I almost pissed myself when Chuy told us about Trackr, not as in laughter but as in fear, 'If it aint broken don't try and fix it' is a motto I use a lot, but imagine the world if we all said that. Fuck me we'd be coming to work on Donkeys still. I never thought Id get sick of BF2 (the game), I never thought I'd get sick of bf2s.com but it happens, and thats without getting into arguments, just watching them. Ya dead right about evolution.
This place cant stand still and dosen't, I think the more people it attracts from outside BF2 the better, I try my best to welcome new members with open arms every time I see a low karma/days reg stats lol but more often than not its a returning member under a new disguise. This place has changed Im not sure if for the better or worse in general, but I also think its the people that make it what it is. Its still probably one of the best forums around. The only thing Id change would be an adult section, I asked about 3+ years ago, got told no and accepted it. Id also change it so I could donate but I dont have a ban acc to use. Thats a change required my end and not the website's.
I hope to come here when its just a few of us and I hope whoever is here I can make them laugh as thats what I take out of bf2s, its also the same thing I put into to bf2s, sometimes I give a bit of knowledge or good advice lol maybe once a week?
It honestly saddens me when I read of any member who comes here and instead of getting cheered up, gets pissed off. Fuck the cliches but Im sure you know what they are I keep repeating them so much Im like a broken record.
As I said earlier - Id love to be a Mod but Id hate to be one. Im just happy and grateful being a member
