Well I found a brand new set! In Ireland of all places! €480 is a steep price hopefully he'll go lower, no one will pay that.

Won't go less than €420, they can't really be over €120 worth better than Z5500...
Yeah, thats quite a bit.  I payed around $550 CAD for mine, including shipping.  Plus mine had slight cooling modifications added to it to prevent any burning out as posted above.  That only happens after 4+ continuous hours per day of loud music though apparently, not really a concern for me.
What way do they work then if their discontinued? Do they have like a tonne spare parts for them? I'd love to buy them tbh, but this guy asking far too much, mint condition or not. I could get a set of Z5500 which do sound good for about €180 =/

If the parts burn out as people seem to say happens, do they ship you the same part back no hassle asked. Or is it a slightly different model of whatever breaks, since they don't make them anymore.

I doubt you can get a warranty from Klipsch, that kind of deal would be between you and whoever you buy it from.

Look into those Altec Lansings I posted last page, they're supposed to be quite good.  And still available

I hope your Z5500's are of better quality than teh Z5300's.  Mine and another forum member set lasted about two years.  On mine  all the channels except teh sub and rear right die out.. pretty fail IMO.

Anyone else following CES? Most of the buzz looks to be centered around 3D. The Lenovo IdeaPad U1 looked cool.. in theory. The screen detached and they had it running linux on the detached screen/slate. When you connect it back to the rest of the device it switched to windows 7.

I'm not really that fussed about 3D... It's all cool and swanky, but it's not revolutionary. This years CES was disappointing.

@ Irish - Where are you downloading your FLAC from? Also, even if your set of speakers, V0 -> FLAC there is little noticeable difference.

320kB/s -> FLAC there's no noticeable difference on a speaker setup <£300..

No. V0 = 320kbps.

V0 is just a way of successfully compressing the MP3 files without losing any of their quality. All V0 does is change its bitrate on the parts of the song where a high one isn't required. You CANNOT tell the difference between V0 and 320CBR.

Also, CammRobb is just wrong.

V0 and 320kbs are different, as you just stated.

320kbs is constant throughout the song despite there being no music in parts of it, whereas V0 is a changing bitrate, so if there's no music, there's no bitrate.

V0 is actually closer to 250kbps IIRC.  I think thats when you take the average bitrate throughout the song though

Okay, lets get this straight

Quality:
V0 = 320CBR

Size:
V0 < 320CBR

Encoding:
V0 =/= 320CBR

The quality is the same, it makes no difference that one is constant and one isn't. On very high end speakers, you may notice a slight difference with 320CBR, but the general consensus is that V0 is just the compressed version of 320KBPS. There is no loss of quality in 320KBPS... I have no idea what you're on about.

Zimmer...what's the difference between 192kbs, and 320kbs? BITRATE. V0 and 320kbps have different bitrates, ergo, they're different.

I never said they weren't different, I said they output the same quality. It doesn't matter if they're different, the quality that our ears hear is the same, 320 or V0.

Yes, it's about 5 minutes from where I work.

Fyi; I had no idea what V0 was. I was just saying on a cheapish speaker setup you can't really notice the difference with anything over 320kb/s

I was using my headset and the difference wasn't huge, but was definitely noticeable. It's hard to describe, just the music seemed.. more fuller or clearer and slightly louder?
