Enemies unite for world record hummus
The giant serving of hummus weighting 4093.5kg resting on a six-metre satellite dish in the Arab Israeli village of Abu Gosh
ISRAELI Arab and Jewish chefs have served up a world record for cooking hummus in the name of Middle East peace.
More than 50 cooks from both sides of Israel's religious divide filled an eight-metre-wide satellite dish with four tonnes of the dip.
The chefs mashed up the monster mix of chickpeas, sesame paste, olive oil, lemon juice and garlic to make twice as much as when the record was set last October.
The Guinness world record idea was originally cooked up by Lebanese chefs who claimed the record last year.
The man behind this latest idea, Jawdat Ibrahim, an Israeli multimillionaire, has devoted his life to promoting co-existence since winning an American lottery years ago.
The world record attempt was made in his restaurant in the village of Abu Gosh on the outskirts of Jerusalem.
