Well i had this internet problem a month or two ago and it disconnected me from the internet and seconds later reconnected me and this could go on numerous times within like 20 minutes. Sometimes it doesnt happen in an hour or so but then it will happen again. I phoned my internet provider up and asked them whats happening with the internet the final verdict of this chat was it werent there fault they couldnt find one. When the internet goes it can go and i wont be able to connect because of an invalid i.p address thats partially the problem, it can also be the gateway it cant find a gateway. Can anyone help me since its just started again recently and i cant think of anything to do.

Thankyou please reply with ideas that may help resolve this so i can have a proper game of BF2

does the sync light go out on ur modem?
do any of the router lights flash when this is happening?
what kind of router?
What have u tried to resolve the issue?

U cant just say i need help with out giving any info on ur setup or exactly whats going on.

no it happens all the time outside of battlefield 2 so i doubt its BF2 problem in this case. Thanks for your suggestion though.

Ok then no i dont have a router i have a motorolla SB5100 Surfboard Cable modem

This is the only computer in the house.

No the lights dont go out they dont get affected at all.

the only light that flashes is the one that is supposed to PC/activity

Well the internet provider i rang up talked me through a few internet options but he didnt see any problems there i thought this could be some kind of spyware or virus, but i have an on screen scanner Avast antivirus i run the virus scan everyday, and i also have Ad-aware SE hopefully this gives you more detail.

Does it seem to happen more in the evenings?

If so, it's probably an overloaded network and packet loss.

No amount of packet loss is acceptable.  Your provider is too cheap to get a bigger pipe.  Switch.

i dont know about this i havent noted when it happens but it can happen all over the place i went on today at 11:00am and it was playing up and 6 or 7 hours earlier my brother told me it was playing up as well. At the moment i have been connected for 2 hours dont know whether that will last im hoping it does but i doubt it. Can people keep giving me more advice on this please so im ready to confront them again or confront my pc whether its something to do with my pc.

All I can say is cable modems suck real bad. I am using Earthlink Cable with 802.11b old grungy Linksys router. It really sucks when used for BF2 and I get lagged out real bad most of the time I play. I wish DSL was offered here (Had SBC Yahoo DSL in California before I moved to crappy New York 2 years ago and the Yahoo DSL service was the best!).

cable modems dont suck man lol.  Also to original poster, i had problems like that before but when i replaced the modem itself with a new one, no more problems so try asking your isp for a new one

theres your problem right there.
everyone I know on blueyonder, including myself is having problems.
I get high pings when gaming, especially at peak times.
I suspect its something to do with the upgrade, it was the same when they upgraded us last time from 512 to 1meg, the lines couldnt handle it at peak times. They upgraded customers first and the UBR's (think thats what they are) in the area later. Now they have 'doubled our speed' again we get the same problems.
My symptoms were high ping so bad I was getting kicked from UK servers, and loss of connectivity.
Im on the SB4100 and thought Id reboot the modem (which used to sort out problems like ping) then I'd lose connectivity.
All the lights were on apart from 'Online' which was flashing.
best thing to do is go to the modem configuration page and play about in there (mention it to blueyonder when you phone up. check your upstream/downstream/power levels) but dont mess if you dont know what you are doing.
With my particular problem I know how to sort it from the modem configuration page now, pain in the arse to have to do it but hopefully the service will get better soon.
Its a shame because on the whole blueyonder are good, its just when they do these 'free upgrades' the service suffers for a couple of months.
