nah not gonna rage... it's ambient music, what do you expect

the greatest ambient album ever made, too

dunno what people were expecting when they listened to 'ambient' music

"Allmusic claims that while "the sound quality is relatively poor," the album is "a watershed of ambient music."[2] and David M. Pecoraro of Pitchfork Media calls it "among the most interesting music ever created with a keyboard and a computer."[3] Rolling Stone called the album "majestic,"[4] and the Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll claims the album was received by critics as "an ambient masterpiece comparable to work by The Orb and Brian Eno."[5] Warp Records has billed this as "the birthplace and the benchmark of modern electronic music" and has stated that "every home should have a copy."[6]. In 2003, the album was placed #92 in "NME's 100 Best Albums" poll (link). The album was also featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. In addition, V/Vm did a remix of "Ageispolis" as part of his Helpaphextwin series."

edit: although i bet people are listening to the wrong disc... get the one with xtal, ptolemy, green calx etc. on it. Not double-ambient series.

As an ambient album I'm sure it's good, but this was really a month of albums, that you could sit down and listen to.

That's Selected Ambient Works Vol.1 [85-92].  Vol. 2 is the one that is listed in the OP.  Vol. 1 is soooo much better though.

yeah i think the wrong album was submitted. i was definitely talking about 85-92. maybe i made a mistake when i submitted, i had to choose between like 3 aphex albums.

and i don't really agree with your regulation of 'ambient' music as not being worthy of music worth "sitting down and listening to". most ambient music is far better than the mainstream token-shit submitted here, when it comes to 'worthiness', anyway.

ambient is extreme now? gangsta hip-hop and metal are for 14 year old rebels and n/wiggers respectively... how is lift-music extreme?

No don't quit I need you to keep sharing your music knowledge

It isn't me saying it, do you want to ask most frequenters of this thread for their opinion? I am pretty sure that 8 out of 10 will admit it's not their kind of music.

Make a playlist of the correct one, then i'll listen.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised Uzique posted something completely different to prove how 'into' non-mainstream things he is.
W/e this threads about listening to different peoples tastes, right?

err SAW 85-92 is probably one of the most popular electronic albums of all time

there are way more 'diverse' things on the list than that. i posted it because it is, in my opinion, the birth-place of all modern electronic music- of which many of you are fans and active listeners.

tl;dr: fuck off, you're wrong, very wrong

A truly awesome album have had this in my collection since it was released. Uzi is correct that it is a truly watershed album in the genre. I was was bouncing round fields in 92 at illegal raves & when this came out it truly opened up a lot of peoples minds to the luscious sounds of this arm of electronic music. Listening to this brought back a lot of happy memories for me. I was really looking forward to this album when i saw this on the list.

thanks smuder, i was hoping someone could back me up. just because it's a highly-reviewed electronic album, doesn't mean im trying to be esoteric and all 'different' for the sake of it. SAW 85-92 is an incredibly popular LP and has influenced an inestimably huge amount of modern electronic music. glad that someone else who appreciated it several years ago is around to comment on its importance, and of course its awesomeness.

thanks liq, too for editing the OP. i suggested like 3 aphex albums back when the topic started and i think i nominated the wrong one hastily out of the 3 without thinking twice. you should all definitely be listening to the playlist that liq posted. it'll change your life, and if it doesnt... i won't give you any money back.

Fyuk ya. Finally Spotify works at work again so I can catch up with this. Starting now, will go through at least 4 albums today.

So, I'm done listening to the LOG album (day 1). I've never gotten into the band that much and quite frankly never understood all the hype. It feels as if the band, though recognized as one of the biggest acts in it's genre today, would lack that one thing that would distinguish it from others. This album doesn't have a "Redneck" (which is an awsm song), IMO, so the whole album, apart from some great licks, riffs and hooks, just.. ..is. And they too sound like someone's trying to impersonate Dimebags squeals.

The album is like driving on the motorway. At first going fast feels great, but then it becomes monotonous and the only thing keeping you from falling asleep are the sporadically appearing tunnels and gas stations. After driving for over an hour, you just want to be at your destination already.

The band members are all professionals, and all props to them for a long career and a large fanbase, but for me, LOG just doesn't "do it".

5/10

British Sea Power: Again, I'm not a big 70's style garage pop fan either, so I'm scoring lower than this album would probably deserve. It's pretty solid though.

5.5/10

Elbow: I'm on track #3 atm, and I like the album quite a lot so far.
I need around tree fiddy.

I added a link for Aphex Twin's album (in case anyone didn't get to listen to it yesterday (which you really should do!)).

Also added links for MGMT. And a link for tomorrow's album.
