I'm looking at getting some online storage space for photo's.

There's the obvious - flickr and photobucket but I've been using Picasa a lot recently for editing my photos and the integration + automatic syncing with the online 'web albums' looks brilliant.

+ It's only £5 a year for 20GB! Which is more than enough space and waaay cheaper than the alternatives. Which are ~$25.

Does anyone have any experience with it or anything else I may have overlooked?

i don't know anything about Picassa, although that sounds good. i have a pro flickr account, i'm very happy with that.
the images on my flickr are cropped and resized jpgs. if i stored my raw files, i'd easily blow out 20gb's.

What's the upload like to flickr if you get a pro account?

Is there a program you can use? Any automation of any kind?

I used Picasa a little bit, never tried the payed version though.

Worked very well, I have nothing negative to say, and it syncs well with Adobe Lightroom

The paid version isn't any different, you only pay for the storage space online which you can sync to using picasa on your pc. That's the main appeal to me...easy and effective.

yeah, the only competitor I know of is Flickr, but I think of flickr as a place for sharing photos, while Picasa is more for storing. (you can store at Flickr as well, but yeah)

i'll often upload one or two the old fashioned flickr way (web based). i do have the upload tool for batch

Jenspm, James, either of you tried lightroom 3 beta? it's free, for now - all my presets and plug-ins work with it. and, 3 supports export to flickr . . .

Yeah, I mean...I'm really interested by Flickr but I don't think I'm quite 'good enough' to warrant a pro account there. I wouldn't check it regularly to see comments or comment others, I'd purely use it to link onto here, show friends etc.

Ooh, that sounds promising, what do you mean by presets and plug-ins?

I went to download it but my home internet is terrible so I'm waiting till I'm back in my house at uni! But I'm definitely going to try it. Already watched a few tutorial vids

check this - http://www.flickr.com/photos/burnzz/ - and tell me i'm "good enough". i've seen some of your captures and you are being hard on yourself. i have soooo much to learn, and i don't post my pictures to be proud of them - i post them to share. a third of my pictures are marked 'family only' because they don't want them out there, yet they wanted to see them.

i like flickr, i like Canon, i like adobe lightroom - doesn't mean it's best or right, it's just what i've chosen. other members like deviantart, Nikon, and Paint Shop Pro - listen to them too! you will find something that suits you.

the difference between flickr/flickr pro? pro gives you unlimited, and the ability to create 'Sets' and 'Collections'. it's why i went with pro.
