I'm just posting this in case anyone had a Linksys router and was experiencing Internet difficulties.  For about a year or two, I've been using the Linksys router that comes as part of a wireless kit.  Every once in a while, my Internet would crap out and the modem would not reconnect for indeterminate amounts of time afterwards, with everything but the cable line unplugged.  I was sure this was the fault of Optimum, and called them about it several times.  They told me it was probably the router but I thought it was bullshit because with the router disconnect I still couldn't reconnect with the modem.  Yesterday I picked up a Netgear router and I haven't had any problems yet.  I don't know how it's possible that a router can interfere with a modem's ability to reconnect after being physically disconnected, but it seems that it was the case.

there was a topic about linksys routers not too long ago.  i think i started it...or maybe i just asked a question in there too.  anyway, i haven't been able to get my internet working with my router ever since i bought it.  i'm pretty sure the problem is the router's ip address being the same as the modem's, but i can't seem to change the router's ip without it making other settings unchangeable (like amount of users gets set to 1 and it won't go higher).
