And now for something completely different...

Anyone who followed yesterday's events will know that Malcolm Turnbull's leadership is on the line.

It'll be a shame if he loses it IMO because I think he's easily the most intelligent, progressive, true-blue liberal (that word has different meaning in Australia, much closer to its original meaning than in America) the Coalition has produced since... ever, as far as I'm concerned.

But his brash, unilateral and sometimes arrogant style pisses many people off, as was evident yesterday.

So...

Place your bets.

EDIT: Shit, I forgot less than a day.

Hard to say, like trying to predict which turd will end up in the bottom of the pan and which one will float.

Australian politics is pretty low-brow, it seems to boil down to who can lie most convincingly and bribe the electorate with their own money most effectively.
Australian political analysis is even worse.

With the country needing so much done its disappointing these guys - the entire parliament - seem content to play childish party politics all day.

He's only lasted thus far because nobody is able to challenge atm. You've got the Mad Monk Abbot or the IR tainted Joe Hockey. The party know either are nowhere near as capable as leading as Turnbull.

It is a shame, but it has really demonstrated how fractured the Coalition is between Nationals and Liberals and has really highlighted how most of the Nationals do not believe in global warmer and climate change in the slightest.

Pierce Ackerman and Annabel Crabb. How those two clowns even have a job in beyond me.

Remember when 60 minutes was a credible program? Now look at it. It's trivial rubbish and celebrity interviews. Same thing has happened to "Sunday". The Bulletin magazine was also wiped out by Packer, the paper that once had writers such as Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson. The way the political commentary has been wiped out in the past few years is incredible.

I didn't even consider Andrews. He's even less popular than, well anyone atm.

Mr Andrews served in the workplace relations portfolio and then as immigration minister during the Mohammed Haneef affair.
^he's the only contender to Turnbull?

That's even more embarrassing.

Especially NSW state politics. It's a load of shit that's taken this state backwards in the last 15 years in regards to education, infrastructure and utilities.

Can we get a "Who the fuck is Turnbull?" answer to the poll?

The poll is the thread title on the main page. "For the Australians" is in small white print next to Sparks name.

Pays to read.

However:
Malcolm Turnbull is the leader of the Federal opposition in Australia.

Choice of leader for the various parties, and indeed who people vote for in elections, seems to boil down to who is the least unappealing dirtball.
Turnbull is currently at the top of a small shit-covered heap of marginally less attractive potential prime-ministers.

tbh I think he will probably last till next election. He's a douche, but really, the liberals have no one better at the moment.
This might sound crazy, but I reckon with the whole "boat people" thing at the moment, and Rudd's slipping approval on that area, Costello could probably come back with a hard line approach an win a lot of votes. (Costello is also a douche, but compared to everyone else in the Lib camp he almost seems like a good option ) Of course coming back to run for PM would be a backtrack on many of his previous statements, but hey, thats what politicians are for.

That's why Costello was offered a nice job in his "retirement" by Rudd.

I'm not really familiar with SA or QLD state politics, but I'm sure they are equally as shite.

speaking of which, tanner was on today just before the Big Meeting (which turnbull survived narrowly) praising costello as head of future fund.

Costello backtracking and stabbing Turnbull in the back? Can't see that happening.

Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull is facing a fresh bout of unrest over his leadership, with Tony Abbott resigning from the front bench this afternoon and Liberal senators set to meet at 6.30pm.

In a perfect world this would be an opportunity to reshape to party as a truly progressive liberal (NOT what Americans think it means, probably "libertarian" is more on the mark in that context) party, rather than an ultraconservative party.

Labour has always been with the unions. It was founded as such. And you'll see most union reps make it into the Labour party because of that.
