BF2S Forums The Army needs to get its priorities straight

I, speaking only for myself, have a hard time with gay's in the military.  I was Navy for 8 years and 3 of those years were in a submarine.  In those conditions I find it an uncomfortable idea having a gay person working with me.  We were suspicious of one of our crew members for a while, eventually he fessed up and was discharged.  We did not treat him any different than anyone else.  I did feel odd every time he was in the vicinity when I was showering or changing.  Maybe I am a little sensitive, but I have worked with gays in the past and had a gay classmate in HS.  It was different being in close quarters with this guy.

I love it, all of these opinions from people who never served and have no intention on doing so. I guess it goes along with thinking they have an nrestricted "RIGHT" to other peoples money.

Wow does anyone know the military stance on blacks in the military?

It was the same as Gays in the Military not too long ago. If it's such a problem for the straight guys why not segregate them?

Key difference: Can't blackmail (no pun intended) someone for being black.

There's no social stigma for being black, so there's nothing to hide, no risk of being "outed" for being black.

Being openly gay isn't as big of an issue as being a closet gay, tbh.

For the record, I have no problem with openly gay people serving. I do have problems with closet gays serving, but I have issues with anyone with "blackmailable" character flaws serving, as they put people and resources at risk by their lifestyle choices.

But no issues with openly gay people serving. Sex life, gay or straight, has no place in the workplace. Unwanted advances, gay or straight, have no place in the military.

You make a good point that openly gay isn't a big an issue for you, but doesn't the don't ask don't tell policy force even the openly gay men and women into the closet gay definition, or risk losing their jobs?

No Aussie, I didn't know the other people in the bunker.

You would not know this but soldiers live together as well as fight together. They are close. I clearly made the point that showering, living with a gay guy could create some animosity that could find its way into the field.

Do me a favor stop being a smart ass, and argue against what I actually say for a change, instead of making up your own argument for me then arguing against it.

It's kind of a weak argument on both parts. If gays want access to military service then they should expect to be segregated the same as females are. Not by unit but by shower times, sleeping quarters etc. Hell, stick the gay guys in the womens quarters, they'll get along faaaaabulously

When I was in basic training there was one guy that liked sitting on the bench outside of the showers to 'talk'. Eventually a pattern was noticed and he was socially ostracized and verbally abused until he stopped with the meat gazing. Shortly thereafter he made up a medical problem and was discharged.

If he was in fact gay and was allowed to serve openly the men that verbally abused him could be brought up on hate crime charges which is a very serious issue. The guy was clearly in the wrong but he would be protected as a minority at the expense of the privacy and dignity of others.
