The video cuts out for about 10 seconds but it comes back
LAKELAND, Fla. -- A central Florida couple has been charged with starving their infant daughter to death after she was found lifeless in their home.

Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies discovered the 5-month-old girl in the family's Lakeland home after responding to a call of an unresponsive child.

Sheriff Grady Judd says the child weighed just six pounds, and that deputies found more beer than food supplements for the baby in the couple's home.

Deputies believe the child, Chauntasia Gardner, was starved to death.

Five other children in the home were healthy and nourished.

Chauncey Gardner and Tivasha Logan have been charged with murder and aggravated child abuse.

Both are being held without bond.
According to officials, the couple had food stamps and government assistance. Yet deputies found only two ounces of formula in the house, Sheriff Grady Judd said. He added that the parents were not even mixing the formula correctly.

Judd said the act was "nothing other than torture,” describing the baby as “emaciated,” “malnourished” and “skin and bones.”

“We saw what you can’t even imagine,” Judd said. “I doubt if your imagination could capture what our deputies and EMS saw Sunday morning
I think I'll stop watching the news. These stories make me so mad/sad.

The Sheriff was asked how the photos would compare to the holocaust (since he is refusing to release them). He said, "As difficult as it is to imagine, worse."

So this isn't just a case of neglecting your kids, am I right?
The sherrif will make sure that the 2 suspects will never walk the face of the earth again nor have any contact with a child.
So what's he going to do with the 5 healthy nourished kids, take em home or to Mc Donalds?

Neglect? More like tortured to death.

Why torture 1 baby and leave 5 hoodlums healthy and nourished?

My guess is that they feed themselves. I think this has to do with extreme laziness.

Exactly. So we've established that they know how and what children need to survive. Thus, they made a decision to deprive this child of that. Willful neglect is torture.

it takes something beyond laziness to not feed one's child.

There was no shortage of beer in the house. Not lazy enough to prevent them from getting their drank on.

Okay.. now I really want to follow this case in court, will this be aired?
I want to know the age range of the other 5 kids and what these bum parents have to say for themselves.

Really think it was just laziness. Not saying that everyone on either of those two are just lazy but the whole government assistance and not mixing the formula right thing just makes it look that way to me.

I don't think there is any doubt that there was laziness involved. But when you are able to suppress the natural desire to provide and protect your young it makes you a special kind of asshole. It takes very little effort to pick up the phone and call DCF. Less effort than it takes to go to the liquor store.

Hence "beyond" laziness. Laziness is one thing... sheer negligence is another thing entirely. Like the difference between ethnic cleansing and the Holocaust, say (hey, the policeman used it so so can I)

It's hard to imagine that they didn't know what the end result would be. And so they made the decision to let this happen.

And btw, did they not have any friends/family? None of them saw or knew of the babies condition?

I would imagine they lied, which is basically what happened in a few similar cases here.

In addition, I suspect that if authorities had actually forced them to care properly, then I wouldn't be very reluctant to say that murder was a possibility. These people are just that off the line.

starve the parents for a week or so... and then when they realize how horrible it must have felt for a baby that couldn't feed itself...
Shoot them both...

What if they were all 5 around the same age and they kept thinking that they were feeding that child?
