Long story short: a girl with no father and an addict of a mother met a pimp at age 11. He raped her when she was 13 and pimped her out for three years. At age 16, she finally stood up and killed the man.

She's now set to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole because the court considered it premeditated.

Never mind the fact that she had been raped many many times over the course of three years.

Never mind the fact that the state should have been doing things to prevent this sort of shit from happening.

Never mind the fact that the pimp probably would have only gotten 30 years in prison for child rape.

Apparently, we can't protect ourselves any more.

-What this man did to her was essentially torture. If you don't support torture, you shouldn't support this girl getting life in prison

-A police officer can shoot a disarmed man who's on the ground in the back and get paid administrative leave, but a girl kills a man who tortured her for three years and gets life in prison

No way for them to confirm or refute her claims without a lengthy and time consuming investigation. During that period of time, seeing as that man would yet to have been charged, and the case against him hinging on the testimony of a single minor which he had already shown willingness to dominate and abuse, how can you seriously believe he wouldn't simply remove what he sees as his property from the picture? Trade her life, a life he had already to a greater or lesser extent destroyed, for his own. This is very simple. In extreme situations, such as this, going to the police is not a viable solution. Occassionally, even in this era of people too pampered and self righteous to consider sullying their precious hands with something as pedestrian as self defense, occassionally, you have to do things for yourself. Bravo to her, she got herself out of a horrible situation, and removed a parasite in the process. She deserves recognition and honor, not a prison sentence.

Umm, he would've been locked up as soon as she came forward. THEN the investigation would've been done. They aren't going to risk her life in a situation like this.

You'd think the judge would understand the serious mental trauma she probably went through and try to get her HELP and not lock her up for life.

-she isn't dangerous to society
-she killed a man that was dangerous to society
-she was under abuse and rape for 3 years by the man she killed
-she is only 16

Not that the judge should say "it's ok to kill bad people", just that this is a circumstance where his death was justified, especially at the hands of someone he put through so much abuse, mentally and physically.

Give the girl a break and help her get her life back to normal. (Or as normal as you can after a teenage life like that)
