So two weeks ago today I went to the Job Centre to sign on and get my unemployment benefit. Had to fill in a form since I'd had to change job centres. That was the 7th October. I was due to get paid by the DWP (Department for work and pensions) on the 12th October.
12th October rolls round, head down to the bank to check if I'd been paid, nothing. Phoned up the DWP asking why my money hadn't gone in, turns out that the form I filled in hadn't been sent to the head office, therefore I won't be paid 'till head office get the form. Phoned up on Tuesday, still nothing. Phoned up on Wednesday, stil nothing. Phoned up on Thursday, finally the form had been sent through. I would get paid on the 20th October. Yesterday. Fine I though.
Now aside from this slight fiasco, I have the dregs of a phone bill I need to still pay off to a debt collection agency. I agreed to pay £20 on Monday the 12th October, and a further £5 a week by direct debit, starting on the 19th October.
Now, because of the lack of money from the DWP, I forgot to phone the debt collection agency, saying I wouldn't be able to pay since I hadn't recieved anything.
I also sold my phone through Mazuma Mobile, since I was saving up for a new one. I got £35 cheque for it. I chashed the cheque a week ago today, (14th october), the cheque was meant to clear on the 20th, (yesterday).
Checked my bank yesterday, I'd been payed by the DWP, but the £35 cheque hadn't gone in. So I thought right okay, I'll wait 'till tomorrow to see if it's gone in. Checked my balance today, cheque still hadn't gone in.
So I phoned the bank to see what had happened:
Because I hadn't been paid by the DWP, the debt company tried to take money out my bank, money that wasn't there. So I incurred a £35 bank charge, which I hadn't been told about. The £35 cheque went into my bank, and came straight back out again, paying the bank charge.
So essentially, I have just sold my phone to pay for a needless bank charge, 'cause I'm a fuckwit.
TL;DR Never got paid, couldn't pay, got bank charge, sold phone to pay for bank charge.
