LOS ANGELES -- Former "Golden Girl" Bea Arthur died in Los Angeles Saturday at the age of 86.
The famously tall and deep-voiced actress had cancer, according to a spokesperson, who declined to give details. He said Arthur's family was by her side.
Arthur is perhaps best known for her roes on the hit television shows "Maude" and "The Golden Girls."
"Maude" was an instant hit for CBS when it debuted in September 1972. The series was a spinoff of "All in the Family," on which Arthur played Edith Bunker's liberal and sharp-tongued cousin Maude.
