So I live in Arizona and me and my dad and some friends went for a ride to South Mountain

South Mountain is a mountain south of phoenix with some nice twists and turns and you can drive to the top of the mountain.

Anyway there was this car going 10mph so on a straight we all passed him.

When we reached the top of the mountain a park ranger rolled up on us and told us they had reports of bikers passing a car on the road (which is apparently illegal because of double solid yellow lines) He then asked for all of our information, insurance, id, registration, for all the bikes.

They then said, "Were not issuing tickets but we are issuing trespassing" and told us that we were banned from the park, for life, and if we returned we would be promptly arrested.

Big whoop, that place is 40 minutes from home anyway... So out of curiosity I google and find an article about Park Rangers in Arizona. They cant carry cuffs, or batons, they cant arrest you, and they cant detain you until police arrive, they are discouraged from making citizens arrests, and they can write tickets but not moving traffic violations (Tickets like drinking without permit or whatever)

So basically these Park Rangers gave us all this shit and told us were in a system and were banned but we never went before a judge or anything... So they told us all this bullshit and escorted us out... hahahaha

Made my day knowing they can't/couldn't do shit - - - Me and my dad might go back soon and rub our new knowledge in these Ranger's faces who think they're such tough shit

For anyone interested we had -

Wow, I can't believe you have your license.

2) Yes, they can ban you, and I'm sure they meant they would call the police to have you arrested should they notice you there again.

On the whole Park Rangers are some of the finer people I have met, and I have met quite a few.

Wow our park rangers here (Ohio) are basically cops.  They carry guns, cuffs and can Issue tickets for moving violations (go me for 35 in a 20 at a park) and pretty sure can make arrests on park property.

In the US it IS universal. You can't pass when there are double solid yellow lines.

Also GodFather I'd be wary. Even if they don't have arrest powers, they're probably good friends with the guys who do.

No shit, dude, if you got summond to court based on this story I could have you banned and fined in court. You have shown an admission of guilt by saying you broke the law (Overtaking a moving vehicle on solid double lines) which is a highly illegal traffic violation. A ranger does have the law on his side when it comes to this. When you step into court the judge is going to look at the situation as a Biker Vs. a Ranger. Who are you going to believe?

You're so cool.

GodFather, you need to stop talking about your bikes on the forums. You have this habit of losing all credibility on one or two facts alone. In that gust of wind thread, you posted the non-full face helmet (on a what, 1300CC bike?) and the idea of the wind popping you off the road and in to violent flips (yeah, you got the benefit of the doubt there, but it's quickly waning).

But hey, you got it fixed quickly enough to go fuck up another basic driving rule.

Now that I think about it, it bothers me more that your dad and 2 friends (adults would make this argument more cynical, but licensed drivers are facepalm enough) went through with this debauchery as well. Did not one person realize when it is and is not ok to pass, or was the adrenaline of few curves at street legal (. . .) speeds too powerful for reason?

Pretty sure they can tell you to leave and you have to but they can't give out life bans for a city park for breaking road laws within the park

I'm so use to crossing the double solid yellow line. Way to many potholes/double parked cars.

There is a big difference between in the city and on mountain roads. They usually do a good job of striping when you have enough line of sight in front of you to safely pass...but man when it is double solid you can't see more than a couple hundred yards ahead of you. Extremely bad idea to be crossing it in the mountains.

I have a shirt from Estes Park that has a lot of stupid things it tells you to do on the back, including passing on the curves, and then "thank you for supporting Estes Park Paramedics" lol.
