Using CS4 ..... how do I take out all of the white background around the item

i normally use a very thin soft brush with the smudge/blur tool and holding down shift, go around the outside.

You may not karma the same person in a 24 hour period.
A cheaper way is to use magic wand (delete background like sup did). Then select the picture outline, then contract by 1 pixel, then inverse selection, then go to filter>blur and do it like that.tazz. wrote:

I mainly use gif to do animations.
If you want to delete the white background from the psd file, just click Select > Select Inverse, and then press the Delete key to delete the white after it's selected. Normally, I use the move tool to drag what I've selected onto a different file I have open (i.e. if you wanted to add the man in the jacket to the other picture or just add him to a new, transparent background).
I mainly use gif to do animations.
Generally, I use a rectangle selection first. Then I click Magic Wand tool and use the key to make it a minus Magic Wand (normally Alt I think). Then click in the white space inside the rectangle/square selection to make the selection only select the picture in the middle of the white space. Afterwards, I normally use a Quick Mask and a soft brush to trim more of the white out from the edges if the Magic Wand missed anything.SEREMAKER wrote:
