I think that the point she was trying to make but failed miserably was, wouldn't you say that for a kid with parents in the military that it would be in her best interests that the war ended? If that kid had the right to vote, wouldn't it be stupid to vote for someone who publicly stated that he would put her parents in harms way. It a good thing to teach a kid to look out for their self interest like every individual should.

But saying Daddy is going to be in Iraq for 100 years is really really stupid, and harmful IMO.

Wonder why the schools are failing? because we aren't paying the teachers enough to attract bright talent. Yayyyy low taxes, booo stupid teachers, ummm that's cause and effect folks. If you're smart you go make mega bucks by creating airy fairy financial instruments that only make sense in a alternate upside down universe. If you dumb you find work at a school and teach kids how to be dumb.

Umm, teachers in this neck of the woods make six figures and there isn't a noticeable increase in teacher quality. Teaching attracts people who want summers off, time with their kids and potheads. You want to see an increase in education quality? Abolish teachers unions, pay scales and tenure.

In a suburb where a two bedroom condo is $200,000, $30k gets you nothing but crap.  It may not be true where you are, but in the chicagoland area, teacher salaries are pathetic, and the teaching quality reflects that.

And we here on Long Island have the highest school taxes and teachers salaries in America. The quality of teachers is still very suspect. Throwing money at the problem will not solve it.

There's a lot of bureaucratic bullshit involved too, it drives the good teachers out of the profession and rewards the bad ones, wages need to go up, and some sort of oversight needs to be implemented to stop the favoritism at the local levels

Oversight is just more bureaucracy. Raising wages isn't the issue, they are already well compensated. Seriously, abolish the union, pay scales and tenure and you'll have teachers that are motivated because their jobs are on the line. Their jobs are currently guaranteed. Why would anyone put forth max effort if their job is 100% secure? I wouldn't. I'd fuck off constantly.
