As far as i know its still the same! commander gets an average of the teams score? or something like!. basically if you do nothin as commander you get points and if you work really hard you get points! so im guessin thats how it works!

all thats changed is kills from arty dont show up as kills in game

Commander Points is Average of The Teams Score.

So being able to Drop UAV's will increase team Kills and More Points so helping out will increase your score.

Better yet, helping out with the killin process will also increase your points as a commander. So get out there and fight next to your troops.

Sadly, that is not correct. Commander do not get points for kills/repairs/anything, just the average of your team WITHOUT negatives, meaning if someone tk's 5 people your score will not drop. Best is to sit back and guard a base with c4, assist your team and they will score more kills/points, thus getting you a higher score.

Driver points? mostly Driver Kill Assist! - You Drive Someone in Your Car or whatever kills someone you get one of them!
Driver Ability assist - Medic in your apc heals someone one!. and so on

Basically you get a point for what others do if you are driving them!

Battlefield 2 hates Pattonish commanders, so don't bother fighting out there on the front unless the server has very few players. Even then, you'll want to be frequently popping into the commander screen to launch scans and provide other useful commandery services. The best role for a low player-count commander is flag-defensive (GD, AA, anti-tank, spec-ops or engineer). The best role for a high player-count commander is pitching a tent in a seldom-explored, artillery-proof area.

I usually do do that, unnamednewbie13, it just helps to hav eevery able body in the fight. And that means, if you're commander, and you can get out and fight, then do so. It's common sense. If you have a lot of players on the server, then of course you're going to be using your time in the commander screen. I was on a 64 player map, and there were only about 20-25 of us playing, and I was commander. We were doing really well, so I didn't have to do a whole lot except fill requests, so I jumped in a chopper as gunner pretty much the whole round. Like I said, every able body....

An oft-ignored commander ability is being able to scan for targets in commander mode, and then point them out to your units. Too many times have I seen front-lines Rambo commanders forget to do this every chance they get, but you're right about the helo gunner's seat, if there aren't any other players who want to gun. I frequently use my unit spotting ability and VOIP to direct the pilot here and there so I can perforate frequent flag raiders.
