But really, what exactly are they anyway. I can't be arsed reading a 10,000 word wiki article or something
Actually, that's not necessarily true for continental European lodges. That is how it works for the majority of the American lodges (it can even be a recommendation by only one member), though. I went to the Grand Lodge of Austria and asked about becoming a member and I was told what to do.Varegg wrote:

It's basically a favors club, you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours ...
Edit: Like Noobeater mentioned most of what they do is to develop yourself as a good human being.
The thing about becoming a Freemason, though, is that you do have to believe in a higher power. What your religion is, doesn't matter. But atheists are not welcome.

I could never join the masons on account of being an atheist.
I'm not a Freemason, my mate's dad is though. I know a number of masonic handshakes which is a cool way to discover who's a Freemason - when you met someone and give them a Masonic handshake and see if they react.

It's not like a Gangsta handshake it's more subtle. Like the Tubalcain "Pass-Grip" which is pretty much like a normal handshake with just one subtle difference. It seems completely normal to an onlooker but if the guy who's hand you're shaking is a Mason he'll reckognise it.SEREMAKER wrote:

Blackbelts are just whitebelts who have never quit.
So it's a bit like a social club?
In the end, we all just want to feel like we belong.

That's awesome. Plus you'll now be able to assist in ruling the world.
