I was applying for a Cadet Civil Engineer position, in a roads and infrastructure department - which would have been perfect as last semester I did (and did well in ) a subject on Transport and Highway Engineering. This thing would have also paid nicely.
So I've spent 5 -6 hours hashing out an awesome application letter, and response to their criteria. Once I'd done that, I was able to proceed to the next stage in the application...
Only to find out that they would want me to go to uni ONE day a week, and work for them FOUR days a week. As I'm studying engineering full time (ie. up to 21 hours/ 4-5days at uni per week), this is a FUCKING RIDICULOUS notion. At this point I decided not do pursue it. Yet the thing that gets me is.. WHY COULDN'T THEY PUT THAT INFO IN THE JOB DESCRIPTION AT THE BEGINNING, SO I DIDN'T WASTE. MY. FUCKING. TIME.

srsly minty you should have applied, and if you gotten it changed your uni structure to part time. That sort of experience is invaluable, and you would have been making money.
Well, this isn't a typical job. I'm not applying as a graduate, with my shiny Bachelor in Civil Engineering. I'm applying as a uni student to a CADET engineer position (don't mind the caps, i cbf to type bbcode). They stated that you must be enrolled in a civil engineering degree.. which nearly EVERYONE would undertake full-time. There's no chance in hell that I would spend 8 years at uni to do a part time BEng. And on that note, I just thought that.. even if I was doing it part time, there is no way I would be able to get all my classes on one day.Cheez wrote:

I's already doing a double degree, so it's 5.5 years. The fuck I'm making it longer. Moneywise.. it was around 630 a week (amerifolks, remember that OZ dollers).. which would have been mental for someone in my stage of studying.AussieReaper wrote:

minty, of course they're not going to put that in the description - they want someone dedicated, someone willing to sacrifice, and if you have to work hard just to get in position to accept the job, they will have learned that you'll likely keep the job.
