it's cultural. stop serving shitty food. forcing kids to read a book about it once a week isn't gonna shave any pounds.

replace 'health class' with 'gym class' and use those hour(s) per week more effectively getting active exercise.

personally i'd be pissed if i had to do that course as part of a mandatory state or national initiative. i prefer going to school to acquire knowledge and (employable) skills, as opposed to being taught a lifestyle. it always pissed me off in school whenever personal values, religious belief or lifestyle choices were dictated or proselytized to you. if someone wants to be obese and wants to eat shit, let them. school should be there to educate them, not to try and shape them into the ideal american joe.

yea, the lecture portion is kinda bunk.
From the "textbook":

Health Dynamics is about helping you to learn about health and wellness and encouraging you to take the responibility for your own health and wellness. Health Dynamics is about making a journey on the road to being "well" through exercise, eating right, and dealing with stress in a positive way.

So... yea. For the exercise portion, I'm in an optional study, so instead of doing the lame whatever they're doing, I get to ride a bike for 30 minutes.

The nice thing about all the general education classes here is that the professors know they're teaching a gen ed, and relax a bit.

That's kinda bad. I saw a video yesterday, worst thing I had ever seen.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
A boy jumped off an elevated platform into a body of water, missing a pavement that juts out about 6 feet at the bottom. Another kid trys, but he hesitates before jumping, resulting in him doing a half flip and landing face first on the pavement. It cuts to an operating room and the kids face is just split in half, you can see inside his nose and see his tongue moving, and see whatever teeth are left. The doctor then holds the two halves together and only then does it resemble a real face.

Honestly, what could they do? I'm sure an ambulance was called. There's just nothing humanly possible that bystanders can do for him.
