How can I .gif a youtube vid?

I want to make a part of a youtube vid (about 3 seconds) into a .gif

I've tried 3 websites that say they can do it but none of them work.

Use MS Paint. It's a really easy program that comes with all windows operating systems. If you got to the file tab, you should see an option that says make a .gif out of a youtube vid. Just go there!!!!! Delete this topic to save the mods some trouble!!!

Download the movie. Then use something like videoavatar. Or use camtasia.. it will let you export to animated gif.

Just tested it to make sure I wasn't full of shit..lol

With Camtasia you don't have to dl the video. It is a screen capturing program..

Camtasia is an all around awesome program to begin with, so yea. You can export to hd video as well. It's much better than the adobe captivate.

You don't have anything on your timeline.

After you record the screen and hit stop the capture should come up and play for you. If you hit edit it will automatically drop into camtasia and you can produce right away. Otherwise you have to find out where it saved and then drop it into the timeline.

Ah ok got it, I made the .gif now, but the colours are all wrong and it's going in slow motion frame by frame

You can tweak the settings.

This is what I have and it comes out nice.

That's what I had the first time and the colours were all wrong, now I tried setting the Frame rate to 30 and turning the "Dithered color reduction" on.

The colours are better now but it still plays very slowly, it's also 23MB...

The video is only 4 seconds long.
