Alpha Protocol

PS3, Xbox 360, PC

"Sega and Obsidian are reteaming for this role-playing game that eschews sci-fi and fantasy for a Bourne Identity-like world of high-tech espionage."

Alpha Protocol is set to be released this October on the major platforms. You take the role of a modern day spy, Michael Thornton, as you guide him through missions from many exotic locations. You make the choices in this gamee, from how you address your handler, your appearance, your trademark pistol to your skills.

this game looks good. Damn good. Apart from niggling graphics issues I see the gameplay looks great, anyone else looking out for it?

looks good. I just hope it's not linear and they make the graphics better and it'll be a real hit.

Looks interesting. Chainshot on those pistols looked a bit silly though, as did fury.

I have heard nothing but bad things, and it is way overpriced on Steam so I have 0 interest.

Sleeper hit lololol.

The voice acting alone could make me give this game a 3/10.

Look up the Zero Punctuation review. Hits this game dead on.

So I bought this game in the steam sale last week and it is quickly becoming one of my favourite RPGs.

I didnt really need another reason to never listen to reviewers or the internet when considering a game, but there it is.

It isnt without its problems, enemies occasionally dissapear when you reload a save after dieing, controls overall are a bit clunky, mouse control in menus and minigames is as bas as I am used to these days, have to play windowed full screen if you want to alt tab etc.

But.

The way the story changes quite drastically depending on decisions you make, and not just having someone dead or alive at the end actual changes, is fantastic. The combat is actually quite good as well when you level up a bit - it is a RPG first and a third person shooter second which I think is pretty cool.

Not sure what patches have changed but anyone who likes RPGs and good storylines should play this.

I missed it in the steam sale but got it for the same price at a different digital distributor. I like it so far, but as timmmmmmmmmmmah pointed out it does have its flaws (Don't really like the camera, controls). I would have never paid full price for it. I'd say get it if it is on sale, otherwise don't bother.

yea, I was interested in this game, but when I heard it had some problems I decided to wait and see if it got some patches out... Then I kinda forgot about the game and now I can't really afford to buy new games here and there like before... So it will have to wait a bit more.

It was $7.50 on Steam last week.

Travis:

Most of the problems seem to be due to a bad port, which sucks because ME2 is on the same engine and has none of them. I dont know how Obsidian takes game engines and manages to break them. Like cover for example. ME2, works perfectly. This game it it works like 40% of the time. If it used a different key rather than open door/take item/every other fucking command then it would be slightly better.

I am complaining a lot about a game I am really enjoying. Pity there wont be an AP2 because this one got so slammed.

So, started playing yesterday. Just arrived at my first mission. Really enjoying this so far. Fresh setting, remarkable voice acting and dialogue. It obviously has its flaws (I´m thoroughly distressed by my view pinching up or turning 180° all of a sudden at random times and graphic jerking), but overall it´s highly motivating.
I´m curious to see how all the dialogue choices turn out throughout the game.

Also, Darcy is a dick and has a woman´s name.

It's not a bad game all in all but it does fall down quite a bit, particularly in dialogue. How can you influence the situation if you don't know what the fuck you're going to say? So many times I have whatsisname spout out something utterly ridiculous for the situation or something that made me want to hit him.  Even more annoying was when it was a key plot decision yet you had no idea what the fuck the choices were and you got five seconds to choose. Everything he says seems to be with this same douche-baggy tone too but I can overlook that.

It's fatally flawed unfortunately. It definitely had a lot of potential but I'm not surprised they've decided to kill the franchise at the first one. A shame really.

Your dialog choices don't really have a huge impact on the game itself. You're still going to be doing the same shit, only the participants and speech might get altered a bit.

Also, the timer on the dialog is 'different,' but awful inconvenient. I have no idea what my guy is going to say, so everything's a shot in the dark as to whether I'm going to come out looking like an asshole. A little more time to tick off the possible lines based on what I've heard before would be nice...or just the ability to read what I'm going to say before I say it.

I havn´t found it hard to predict what he´s going to say in most cases tbh.
For some reason, the dialogue system makes me regret choices less than ME for example. It´s fluent, feels a bit more like a movie than a game though, so I can see how people might not like it. But it fits the "James Bondy" feeling it has to me.
Hitting on your female collegues, mocking the male ones, being a cocky "secret" agent who gives a shit about being secret and just blows all to hell. Really fun for me so far.
Controls and save system from hell really get to me though.

It's some crazy backwards tilde for most people.

Maybe the German apostrophe is different, but I never saw claus have that problem.
