This money is coming from the original stimulus bill right?

The government is funding the program in the hope that the appliance industry will get some stimulus money.  The home appliance industry has been in a big slump with sales in 2009 down about 15% from last year.

I don't think this is in addition.. I could be wrong.

You must not pay taxes if you think the government handing out money like it's a broken ATM machine is a good thing. But hey, we're already 10 trillion in debt, whats a few hundred million more right?

You want a new fridge? Save up for it. Having trouble saving money? Then you don't really want the new fridge. It's pretty simple.

i've got enough in checking to walk right up and hand 'em cash, that's not the point. the point for me is~ i sign on the line, break the payment into 12 pieces, get a rebate, get the old one carted off when they deliver the new one, and the new one is more efficient. i do not get any tax breaks, i pay my share. die in a fire, usmarine

when news of the rebate came up, the wife and i decided we needed a new fridge. it wasn't the program, hell we coulda traded in the s-10 during cash for clunkers but it does the job we need it to. so, we went to the local (yes, we buy local, and where we can we buy domestic) furniture store, and the only reason we got on the payment plan was to take advantage of the delivery service (remember the s-10? sux for haulin fridges).

as far as people takin advantage of my taxes? i said before we are childless, yet the bulk of my property tax goes to the local schools. i am sure we have illegal immigrant children at that school. i still pay, because i am a law abiding citizen. i am active locally, and i try to make a difference.

I'm going to kind of nitpick but illegal immigrants pay for their own kids schooling via rent. The landlord then pays property taxes from the rent. It's a small thing but I hate when stuff like that is repeated. (And yes, when they pile 20 people into a one bedroom apartment they are gaming the system but you can thank your state legislatures for making it so damn hard to evict people, at least it's like that here in New York where it's next to impossible to evict them.)

wow. So people are bitching about 300 mill being spent where it really matters, its citizens, when u guys spend nearly 600 Billion on defence to maintain an army that is completely unnecessary in this day and age?

I bet if u cut around that bureaucracy that spends that 600 billion you would find a spare 300 mill...
