I apologize if this has been posted. I knew about the Prius production impact on the environment but I have never seen the road test.

They said it depends on how you drive. If you commute long stretches of highway it does not mean the prius is going to be more efficient. The statement said something along the lines of "don't just go trading in your vehicle to buy a prius for the enviroment". I assume this was also considering the production impact.Flaming_Maniac wrote:
No, they aren't. It is about the car, not just the driving style. An M3 is going to get much worse mileage than a Prius under identical, reasonable driving styles.

Depends what you drive. But I doubt very much the Prius driver would get worse mileage.Stingray24 wrote:
Driving style does factor in. I guarantee the guy who floats past me every day on the freeway doing 80mph+ in his Prius is getting worse mileage than I am. At slow speeds? Sure, he'll get better mileage. But what are those nasty batteries going to do for the environment ...
That's why most people would buy such a car, yes. But you have the douchebags (both the enviro freaks, and the insecure petrol heads) who try to turn shit around and make it something else.mtb0minime wrote:
I thought people bought the Prius to save money on gas, not to be environmentally friendly. Seriously.
But an M3 is better than a Prius.DrunkFace wrote:
The test, with all its flaws was not to tell you an M3 is better then a Prius. All it was meant to show, is how driving style greatly impacts on your fuel economy.
Prius batteries are recycled, so there is minimal impact on the environment.Stingray wrote:

I love Top Gear, but pretty much none of Jeremy Clarksons opinions should be trusted. He is happy to misuse facts to put across his point of veiw. He is also a notorious climate change denier, and hates any car that tries to be environmentally friendly.
Funny bloke though.
This was the bottom line. People put so much weight into what it says on the sticker and ignore other relevant considerations. My mistake was copy pasting the youtube title into the thread title.Bertster7 wrote:
but it does demonstrate the point nicely that how you drive matters a great deal.
