But don't carry a concealed weapon unless you have a CWP AND have a valid reason to carry it at that moment, or it will be taken away permanently and you'be fined or even sentenced.
You better don't take a gun to a political rally, even to make a point, whatever that point might be.

Don't get me wrong, I know there is a different approach on guns in Europe and the US, and I respect yours, but one shouldn't make a point about the right to carry a gun at a political rally, at a moment where a lot of nutjobs are polarising a debate.
Whats is to stop someone from plowing into the car with a semi at 100mph? That would more then dent it. This guy posed NO threat to POTUS. If he did, he would have been dealt with.

Police oficer are trained personel, their firearm are in a holster, it take a little more time to get em out, that mean the cop can prlly react faster than the normal citizen. also, assault rifle last ive checked use bigger caliber, fire faster, and way more far than a pistol does. Also, full AR clip = around 30 bullet, Pistol can go to what nowaday? 15 round max?west-phoenix-az wrote:

Let's clarify a couple points. First, the Secret Service establishes a secure perimeter where ever the President goes. It is large enough to prevent any likely assassination attempts from outside the perimeter. Inside the perimeter, only LE and SS are allowed to possess any type of weapon. This is SOP.
The people open carrying are all OUTSIDE the perimeter, therefore they would have to aggressively breach the secure area to even get a clear shot on the President (and these protesters were acting non-aggressively anyway).
Next, personally I have no problem with OC or protesting, but the media spin from this is mostly negative. The man in Phoenix did a better presentation than the guy out east, since he was dressed like a respectable businessman (dress for success, right?). The issue here is perception is just as important as reality in this activity, and the (generally) anti-gun media has a huge ability to spin it in a negative way. The odds of this being a net gain for gun-rights activists (toward the general population) is at best a 50-50 bet.

5.56x45mm against an elephant?! HAHAHAHA! The elephant has pretty decent odds!Pierre wrote:

I don't think we're even getting close to the 5.56, more like a 9mm, maybe. Still I'd love to see someone try to kill an elephant with anything that could conceivably be concealed!RAIMIUS wrote:

I've seen some of the firearm training requirements for police and its not impressive. All of the citizen pistols I saw were in holsters. A rifle in a sling is not so easy to remove from someone. Many pistols sold today have more than 15+ rounds.Roger Lesboules wrote:

Someone could just as easily take an officers firearm as one of these citizens. There are dash-cam videos online that show officers losing the struggle for their own firearm, it can and does happen.
Yes, the media tries to put their negative spin on it. Some people will see the truth. Nothing bad came from the event and the man followed the law. Here (VIDEO) is what the police and Mayor had to say. Sounds positive to me.RAIMIUS wrote:

The man was dressed and conducted himself very well. I'm glad it was a black man. If it were a white man it'd probably be just another "redneck gun nut".
It's hard to say what the pro-gun gain may be from something like this. I think its more positive than negative. The legality of open carry was spread to a lot of people and nothing bad happened. That's good in my book.

You can easily buy hi-cap mags for various pistols. I had a glock 23 at one time with a 30rd mag.
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something. - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.
Actually, Turq, this is absolutely perfect press for those of us who support gun rights. Multiple guns were out in public with their responsible owners and no one was accidentally shot, no one committed a crime, and the evil guns did not kill anyone. Also, an AR-15 is not an assault rifle.Turquoise wrote:
Now, I'm an ardent supporter of gun rights, but to me, this is just stupid. This is the quickest way to cause a public backlash against gun owners, because it paints gun rights advocates in a bad light.
Yes, you have a right to protest. Yes, you have a right to bear arms. Still, you're bringing an assault rifle with you right outside a presidential speech? I guess these guys don't mind being watched by the government, because I'm sure they are now.
Don't agree with packing an AR at a political rally (it's intimidation, conscious or not), but at least he was carrying an AR, the patriot's rifle, and not some stinking piece of shit AK.
bah, if he had violated a law there would be more of an issue.
If he was deemed a threat he would have been detained.
Arizona is an " open carry " state, and he was in bounds of the law. Those in liberal states or outside of the U.S. may consider this insanity, but this is America and bearing arms is a foundational issue.
