This is the only thing this cop has done to disappoint me. give in to the politics of this event. I would not have taken Gates abuse, and accusations, let Obama call me stupid to a nation, then sit and have a beer witrh either asshole.

It puts him in a position to say that he tried.. It may be of value if this is pursued legally.

I totally agree. Obama gets a free pass, looks like a total asshole and then gets to preach to us about a " teachable moment. " The cop should have not attended. Perhaps he is angling for a book deal. This is totally fucking lame.

What a fucking joke this nation has become.

On the left, a racist asshole. In the middle, an attention seeking whore. On the right, a disaster.

Multiculturalism does have some serious drawbacks.

It would be much easier to get things done had we never implemented slavery or even encouraged much immigration.  We'd be smaller but a lot more unified on most issues.

Nowadays, it seems to be a continual process of superficial tolerance while the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.

cry me a river, at some point in history every race has been exploited. There are no slaves alive in America nad hasn't been for 170 years.

Civil Rights is over 50 years old now and the people bitching the loudest never experienced it. Times have changed, it is up to the minority community to move forward from it, JUST AS MUCH as it was up to the white community to release it.

I wasn't suggesting that slavery justifies Gates's attitude.  I think you'll find that you and I probably agree on more than you would expect in the realm of social equality.

For example, I believe affirmative action is outdated.

I have to give Obama credit at least for his handling of this post-"the police acted stupidly." Considering the public message both people sent out afterward and their plans for another meeting, it seems something good could actually come from this on some level.

Don't ever try to argue that with African-American people - ever. You'll get called a racist almost immediately.

I don't see how that picture can piss anyone off so much. No dead profs, no dead cops, and the biggest media frenzy about racism all year culminating in the main figures chatting and drinking a beer?

Sure it's about vanity as well, but what isn't in the world?

it is a PR stunt, nothing more. Remember, if Obama did not apoligize for what he said, which was wrong ( he even admits it) then he is not sorry for it.

Lowing must be loving this. It took Obama fucking ages to mention race since entering the media spotlight but at last he says... now where did I put that confederate flag?

I have no problem with Obama mentioning race, WHEN it is a racial issue. the only thing that made this a racial issue was the guy was black. If he were white, given the same circumtances, we would not be having this discussion, nor would the president even be involved.. So tell me, who are the racists in the story?

Pretty much...  although they usually have to pause first when I show them that William Julius Wilson (a black sociologist) supports the changing of affirmative action to reflect class not race.

We should be helping the poor regardless of race.

I never heard that a prominent African-American actually argued against affirmative action (seven 'A' words, lel). How do your opponents respond, aside from pausing, when they hear you mention it?

And exactly. I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Well, I think I may have changed the minds of some of them, especially when I explain that by making this change, poor blacks would still receive help.  It would just remove rich and middle class blacks from the program, because they don't need the help.
