I'm not sure I want to go through the process of reformatting and then reinstalling all the drivers for the laptop. I'll probably just disable the extra services and processes in msconfig. But if it's really that bad, I will reformat as a last resort.some_random_panda wrote:

The T500 and R500 are pretty similar under the hood. The only thing that didn't work out of the box on a fresh vista install for mine was the fingerprint reader

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
Bought myself a pair of Sennheiser CX 300 II earphones while i was on holidays. My $8 earphones from ebay were shitting me to tears. I'm sure they aren't the best earphones around, but they are a ENORMOUS improvement over my old ones

It was 679€ at Gigantti. Online would have been cheaper, but I didn't bother.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

bought an Akasa Integral P2 external HDD case - it's awesome. Easy to install, sleek design, and supports IDE and SATA with output of USB 2.0 or eSATA. Only thing I with it had was a remote, as the switches (power and switch between USB/eSATA) are at the back, kinda hard to reach when in a media rack thing.Jenspm wrote:

Connected it directly via USB to the TV, and the TV played movie files like a champ. 1080p x264 files were played without problems. Dissapointing that one could only fast forward at 2x speed - annoying if you sit on your remote and exit the program and have to ffwd to where you were. Doesn't support DTS or VC-1 from mkv files, which is dissapointing. I would also like ISO support, but I can live without.
Mind you, I haven't applied any firmware updates, don't know what they'd bring to the table.
The music player is absolutely rubbish - importing my relatively small library (~40GB) would've taken ages.. It took like half an hour to import a dozen albums. I stopped it there.
Picture quality is amazing - if you turn off the 100Hz. I like the BD Wise function, which seems to set the picture settings for you, depending on the TV... Not sure, picture is nice though, but I haven't done any more calibration than that, other than turn off the 100Hz setting that caused picture noise.
Sound is pretty bad, even for an integrated. But meh, most people would buy external audio systems with this TV - too bad we didn't.
Black levels were surprisingly good, not exactly a Kuro, but good nonetheless.
And did I mention it's sexy as fuck? Well, it is.
Haven't tried playing a DVD with the Blu-Ray player yet- so I can't say anything about the upscaling. Blu-Ray movies are fucking sex though

I already have a Klipsch RC52 center w/ T90e floorstanders... I want all Klipsch though, I read somewhere that its best to match tweeters; Klipsch has the Tractix horn tweeter and Polk's is domed. Any validity to that?
Plus the center is so amazing that I am dying for them all around.

LOL. You now need to get a bigger flat-screen.
And some damping. I find your lack of glass fiber and bass traps disturbing.Ilocano wrote:

My LCD is big enough to get by, I pumped four times what the TV is worth into the audio. I know I need damping Freezer, but as a full time desktop support technician and student; the project keeps getting put off, and yes I do use the corner as a bass trap.Freezer7Pro wrote:

Got this from my step-brother.

Just as well as my CRT was dying. Brightness was at max and still couldn't see shit. Nice clear image from this one though.

Actually many of the cheaper MLC based SSDs do get slower over time. Some faster than others depending how good the drives internal wear-leveling is. Every decent SSD can handle normal laptop use, but when you put it into OS drive of your nice desktop PC, things could get ugly over time; some drives work just nicely for long time, some start struggling fast.
Windows 7 introduces a special function to counter this. TRIM. It is the SSD equivalent to Defrag of HDDs (defrag doesn't work on SSDs). Too bad most drives won't support this yet. Some like OCZ Vertex will get firmware update for TRIM support.
