Don't give my wonderful state (well wonderful sans Bodymore) DC's problem. We already have to deal with PG county and bodymore as it is
Heh. Luckily Virginia got Alexandria and Arlington. I'd say they got the best of that deal.
If I move to the DC area after college I'm probably gonna live in Alexandria or Arlington or Falls Church or Vienna or Fairfax. Or maybe Springfield. NoVa has great restaurants, great neighborhoods, low crime and VA has good gun laws.
Just a word of advise. If you have to make a daily commute into DC it's a bitch trying to get into the city from Franconia/Springfield. I've mentioned on here before that I made the commute from that station (and Van Dorn) to American and Cleveland Park. It's taken up to 2 hrs to get back and forth.
If you have to go to the American U. area I'd live in Rockville or Bethesda (if you can afford it), or anywhere on the Orange Line in VA if you go to GW or Georgetown.
I was working in Virginia at Belvoir and going to school at the same time which was a major PITA. I really feel for the sorry fuckers that had to go anywhere in Prince William or Fauquier to DC and back.
And re: the gun issue. Fairfax county is safe enough that you don't need to worry about owning a firearm anywhere in the area. As you've noted, crime is basically a non-issue most places in NOVA. There is a slim area along the Rt. 1 corridor that has some blight and Springfield is has
some issues, but that's mostly idle teens looking for trouble.
If I could live anywhere in NOVA it'd be Rosslyn, Courthouse, or Falls Church. Those seem to be the best areas for young professionals/military/college students.
