Right so I was usig my PC yesturday and all seemed grand but I thought I should clean it up for a change so I ran my Norton 360 full scans and decided to Disc Defragment also. Long story short, I had to stop both and turn off my PC. Tried turning it on today and came to this message:

https://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x129/siglord/1stScreen.jpg

I get two options, Launch Startup Repair and Start Windows Normally.
When I try pressing 'Launch Startup Repair' this message comes up:

https://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x129/siglord/2ndScreen.jpg

And if I press 'Start Windows Normally' it loads the usual Windows Screen but goes right back to this screen again!
So what can i do or is there anything i can do?

Cause: Norton
Fix: Insert you win installation disk and chose the repair option

Edit: also in BIOS check if HDD (the correct HDD if there are more) is the primary boot device

Its possible Norton overloaded his HDD when it was scanning. I'm suspecting hackers will start to redistribute free versions of Norton soon.

try linux live cd. If it works without issues, the OS install is corrupted / drive is failing.

Thanks for the replies, problem is I never got a Windows Installation Disc before, all the computers I had in the past already had Windows installed and I never got any disc So when i get the disc and run repair, will this delete any data i had saved on my HDD?

No, it won't delete any data. It only affects Win installation files-its like a reinstall of your OS

but make sure the disk is exactly the same as your install. Not just any Vista 32bit, its either Home, Premium, Business, Ultimate,...

Something the others forgot to mention... When you get into the repair console, use these commands to rebuild your OS.

Code:

fixmbr

Code:

fixboot

Code:

chkdsk c: /f
Sober enough to know what I'm doing, drunk enough to really enjoy doing it

Oi. When you boot into the recovery console from the CD No need to go into safe mode.

I don't think you need to use commands there. Its basically like installing OS. You have a menu, you choose to install OS and then you get an option to repair (R). Haven't used the repair console for a while so I could be wrong.

Um, the repair console is where you type the commands.

but he's not supposed to go into the recovery console.  he just has to select "repair install" from the CD.

Repair "function" then so I don't get sued for using incorrect terms?
