So, I'm thinking of getting a mountain bike. The problem is I need it under $450 USD. And I would really like it if it was full suspension. Any advice, ideas, etc? I'm about intermediate, been riding before, have experience. Any help is appreciated.

I can concur this tbh.

Most full sus'ers have much cheaper and heavier parts than their hardtail competators, and you don't really need rear suspension anyway.

That's like 275GBP. That kind of money, pretty much the only bike worth looking at is the Specialized Hardrock. The components are cheap like everything at that price, but it's a solid frame to build on.

I realize its quite a bit out of your price range (:p) but well worth the money. I found mine for quite a bit cheaper ($600ish) at a local dealer, so look around. Still made in the good old US of A.

Edit:
The F8 seems to be quite a bit cheaper at $550

This.  But I probably wouldn't upgrade it.  If you add lighter and better bits the heavy frame will hold you back.

Don't even consider goes FS at that price.  Personally I stay clear of full susers till at least the £1000 mark.

Yup, general rule of thumb is don't touch a full susser until 1k GBP.

When I was talking about upgrading it, I meant stuff like better forks, rather than lightweight stuff. I don't believe in lightweight

Ah ok.  Toras would be a good option for it.  I'm a sucker for lightweight stuff, makes the climbs so much more enjoyable!

I have a Trek 3900. I ride it pretty hard and have had no problems. You can find them for around $350 - $400.

Giant Faiths are shit and out of his price range by several thousand dollars, and I don't think Kona do anything for that money.

Ok, so I think I'm gonna go with ghettos. But how important are disc brakes?

Specialized make fantastic bikes. The frames are amazing, geometry is fannytastic. Only poroblem is, the components aren't top notch. But don't let that put you off. Specialzied are brilliant buys.

Deore gears at front and at back, suspension at front and under the seat (Rocky), double reinforcement on both wheels. If you can get more for 450$ then get Deore XT as the rear gear

The disc brakes it comes with aren't very good, probably equal to the V-brakes on the cheaper model. However, if you think you might buy some hydraulic discs in the future, get the Disc model, because the cheaper model doesn't have disc mounts on the wheels, so you'd need new ones to be able to attach them.

That said, the Hardrock Disc looks awesome in green, so I'd say get that.

Is that a joke about the OP's location, or is there something here I'm missing?
