I tried to run TF2 on my laptop, and the performance was awful. I have a decent build for a laptop:
- Intel Duo T9550, 2.67 GHz
- 6 gig RAM (I know)
- ATI Radeon HD 3670
- Vista SP1
Sounds like others with similar cards were reporting running games on all medium with no issues. I have settings on all low and the resolution at 1360x876(? - whatever that 16:9 is), and I get about 40 FPS with the setting on all low on a server by myself. Online, with rockets flying etc I get about 20 FPS from a distance. With that stuff rendering in my face, I get about 10 FPS. A pyro decides to have a flamethrower in my face? I don't even see flames, it skips from the first frame to my deathcam shot. I'd assume around 5 FPS, but the monitor doesn't even give me a number. It's a fairly consistent 9-10 in combat situations.
I just updated my driver (vista, 64bit), so I'm guessing it's not that. I also tried it before updating drivers, so rolling back won't help. Multicore support is unchecked (causes lag in valve games), so it's not that either. I'm fairly out of ideas.
I do run EVE online with few issues, but it's not in exactly graphically stressful situations. I don't think it's running at optimum either (it should be smoother), so I don't think it's a TF2 issue. I'm about to download another non-valve game (assassin's creed) just to try and see what kind of results I'd get, but I'd rather not download 12 gig just to check my FPS.
