The movie was good; enjoyed it better than Terminator: Salvation, but there is a lot of questions in my head after seeing the movie.
If there is any die-hard Trekkies here, please answer this for me.

Was the movie based on alternate-universe? So what happen to planet(s) and events did not happen at all in the real universe?
In the real universeSpoiler (highlight to read):
the Vulcan planet was never destroyed?

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Spock and Urhara kicking boots in the movie. Did they have something going on in the real universe?

Spoiler (highlight to read):
What happen to the far-future Spock in the real universe?

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Is this really how the crew was formed?

How come there is grand canyon in Iowa? To date it is flat, below sea-level, and full of corn fields.

1. Think of it like this. The 'real' universe is history. It happened, and now this is happening. That's how i think of it and it makes perfect sense in my head. So the film takes place in the real universe too. Just after the original one. But no. Vulcan was in existance all through every Star Trek series ever.

2. I don't know an awful lot about the original series but I've heard that it was hinted at.

3. I guess he's just gone. If you're wondering why he was on Romulus in the first place then the Star Trek: TNG episode 'Unification' parts 1+2 set up Spock's place in the film quite nicely.

4. Not even close. Just for lols lets look up Captain Kirk on wikipedia to see how he ended up Captain of the Enterprise in the old universe:

Wikipedia wrote:

At Starfleet Academy, Kirk became the first student to defeat the Kobayashi Maru test, garnering a commendation for original thinking by reprogramming the computer to make the "no-win scenario" winnable.[1] Kirk was granted a field commission as an ensign and posted to advanced training aboard the USS Republic.[1] He then was promoted to lieutenant junior grade and returned to Starfleet Academy as a student instructor.[1] Students could either "think or sink" in his class, and Kirk himself was "a stack of books with legs".[44] Upon graduating in the top five percent, Kirk was promoted to lieutenant and served aboard the USS Farragut.[1] While assigned to the Farragut, Kirk commanded his first planetary survey and survived a deadly attack that killed a large portion of the Farragut's crew.[1] He received his first command, the equivalent of a destroyer-class spaceship, while still quite young.[45]

Kirk became Starfleet's youngest captain when he received command of the USS Enterprise for a five-year mission
So yeah. The old stuff was far more realistic.

yeah in the original Vulcan is not destroyed. Kirk and Spock, et al don't get into the Enterprise as a whole crew so young. And Spock and Uhura don't have a thing for each other. (there was some TOS episodes where Uhura may have looked coy at Spock, but that was about it).

Not sure about future Spock. That was after the latest Star Trek movie, episode, etc.

Iowa with a canyon = It's a movie.

Spidery:

1. The real universe is the future-Spock's history. He tells the young Kirk of what happen in his time life.

2. I only watched the only TV series and seen the first three movies, never read any of the books which help
fill the time-line. So I wonder if the books hinted "their" relationsihp.

3. I'll check out that episode

4. I draw up to the conclusion: even if the future was affected, it was fate or destiny

5. I still don't know how the State of Iowa got a canyon. Is it a trash dump?

Well, if the original universe was erased when Nero's ship went through, the original Spock would not have gone through. He would have been erased along with the timeline.

It's an alternate timeline imo.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
In the end it turned out better for Future-Spock. At the end, he mentioned it is his duty to re-establish his race. Give that Vulcan a pimp cane

With the time-continue-um? and all that other crap it wasn't so clear to figure out what has changed and how some of their behaviors changed as well.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
I thought they were going to restore the real-universe by traveling back in time to stop Nero's ship from jumping into the future.
After the movie ended as it did I was like ok so Kirk will not fix the Time-Continue-um or whatever it is called.

exactly Adam , maybe this new alternative-universe is to sell more books / movies with alternate-endings. Imagine a world of no Tribbles...there would be no russian or beef-eaters hats to be made.

Answers below:
1. Like others have said, Vulcan was never destroyed

2. Dunno

3. Like Back to the Future, an alternate time-line had to be created where future Spock was co-existing with his younger self after Vulcan was destroyed, maybe. Young Spock wasn't on Vulcan when it was destroyed, so future Spock's timeline was never reallyed altered, since he wasn't there when it happened. Since the Young Spock survived the destruction of Vulcan, he could live out his life to become old Spock. Though, this might also prove the existance of an alternate timeline, as young Spock would probably live a different life than his future self.

4. Dunno

5. I'm sure the canyon is there because something happened in that timeline or they mined the area for some reason. I mean, they are building space ships around there.

They made this alternate timeline in a clever bid to allow them to create new stories and allow them creative lisence while still being 100% canon. Before this film, Star Trek was seriously beginning to suffer because of the fact that everything had to be canon and they were running out of space. I think it was very clever.

shit I think you are onto something...think about it for a minute. If Lando did not lose the Mill. Falcon to Han Solo. Him and Chewy would be pal-ing around Mos Eisley until a snot-nose kid and an old man showed up.

Lando of course can't stand the snot-nose kid because he thinks the kid knows too much decides to blow the space station up and collect his prize aka Princess Leia.

British Grenadier Guards are a fake ripoff of their mainland counterparts, as is the Brittish Household Cavalry.

I thought the worst part of the movie was the excessive lens flare JJ Abrams decided just had to be in the movie.

Cloverfield suffered from shaky camera, so he had to find some other way to annoy us in this movie.

Check out the 40w light bulbs all over the bridge:

There's even lens flare in this single shot around spocks face because of them.

How does a movie suffer from something that was intentional?

When it is over done to the point of making the movie (almost) unwatchable. I know people who suffered vertigo and couldn't sit through Cloverfield in the cinema.

The lens flare in ST was intentional also.
