Southwest Airlines Co. is trying to navigate its way out of a stiff recession with the help of pets.

The largest U.S. discount carrier by revenue will allow passengers to bring small dogs or cats in the cabin for a one-way fee of $75 on flights beginning June 17. The pet must be small enough to fit inside a leak-proof carrier stowed under a seat and remain there for the whole flight.

Southwest is following on the heels of other airlines, many of whom have routinely permitted small dogs, cats and birds in flight cabins for several years

Is this a European or Asian thing because this is the first American carrier that I'm away of allowing small pets into the passenger cabin?

So now in addition to baby screaming I now have to worry about cats and dogs on a plane?

Or how about Small snakes:

I'm allergic to cats, so I am not going to use an airline that allows cats in the area of where I'm sitting.

Feel safer/more comfortable about the well being of your pet I guess.

Do you know any other major United States carrier that allows this besides Southwest?  I've NEVER seen a pet on any flight in the last 20 years.

I'd rather have a dog on a plane than a baby. At least dogs are cute...

What happens about allergies? And when they take a shit it's going to stink out the cabin?

So because they make noise, it means other things that make noise should be allowed on? Shit, next time I fly I'll bring my boombox with me, and blast the cabin with some NWA.

I don't see what the big deal is Jetblue, the airline I always fly, has been allowing pets in the plane for years.  If anything shouldn't be allowed on planes it's little kids who are gonna make a whole lot more fuss then a little dog who is probably much better behaved.  I do acknowledge that some dogs who haven't been trained correctly can be annoying but I have yet to be on a plane with one and I fly round trip across country 3 times a year.

I have the fond memory of someone with a pug in the seat behind me, the little guy was so cute the crew let him come out of his carrier and sit on people's laps.  He was quite the nice pug, just lay there quietly, didn't even snore.

Apparently you get the net on planes these days.

Might be worth playing Battlefield and turning up the sound so people can hear "MEDIIIIIIIC!!!!". ...Should help relax them for the flight.
