The article is a bit trashy but this
Obama --> "His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe." I would say is alarmist but more than within the rhelm of possibility.
And this "They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights." = qft
But I wouldn't say we are headed for Marxism, we headed for a system more like the corrupt Oligarch system that Putin oversees... But if I were a blogger in Russia I wouldn't say that now would.... Oh gotta go they're here, damn that was fast.... and I didn't even hit send yet?!
Oligarchs had far more control before Putin rather than after. He actually destroyed/exiled the ones who put him in power.
True, but didn't Putin replace the Oligarchs with himself. Right now he is the puppet master in Russia. Aren't reporters and others who try to expose Putin turning up dead, drive by assassinations? IMO Putin's purge was more of an Oligarch power struggle with Putin coming out on top and in control of Russia's oil.
Like I said I wouldn't say the US is headed for Marxism, it looks more like the consolidation of industrial power in the hands of a favored few large companies, like Goldman Sachs. The govt is facilitating this move by taking up ownership within companies like GM and AIG and controlling the boards of others. My only question is who exactly are the American Oligarchs?
The flip side of the argument is that the govt is simply buying large interests in these companies to keep them from being bought out by foreign interests for pennies on the dollar. In other words a system of nationalization to prevent foreign takeovers because as the dollar devalues there is a good chance that the world will strip the US back to an agrarian economy and the idiot speculators on Wall Street are all to happy to facilitate the strip down of the American economy.... See, not Marxism, but a govt program of nationalization to protect the core of the American economy from a really destructive form of capitalism.
