You mean the Coalition of the Willing? Didn't Britain just leave completely from Iraq? The rest that are there are not in any significant military presence. (I think Japan has like 5 doctors in Iraq)AussieReaper wrote:

You mentioned the extremist Islamist reaction. It's the moderate Islamists and US supportive Islamists "hearts and minds" that are going to be turned off if these sorts of photos are released.
The extremists are going to get much more extreme. But they are going to be given a huge recruitment pool is torture photos in their thousands become public.
I thought it was the military advisers made that decision for him.Kmarion wrote:

Source:Mr Obama previously committed to allowing thousands of images to be published but changed his mind after senior generals warned that their publication could place US troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan in greater danger.

The best that can be done is to prosecute the offenders.
Beyond that, if anyone wants to become a terrorist as a result of this, they can enjoy dying in combat, blowing themselves up, or going to prison (and maybe getting raped).

Most of the people I've heard giving a shit about the current round of photos is neither militant nor Muslim.
"Nothing would happen," he said. "This is a very old issue, and we Iraqis have seen much worse than just photos."

Oh I see...if the populace goes against the occupying forces its all downhill from there -even the Romans knew that.AussieReaper wrote:

I guess if that's what happens then isn't that what Obama wanted (to get out of Iraq faster)? Lets just hope that the Iraqis are tough enough to stand on their own two feet once we leave.
Afghanistan though is another matter because of the rampant drug trade and instability of Pakistan.
Afghans are not really happy with us anyway because of all the civilian deaths and the fact that we don't hire locals as contractors.
I should hope you know that as CINC he has the final say. HE has to answer for the decision.AussieReaper wrote:

"Understand these photos are associated with closed investigations of the alleged abuse of detainees in our ongoing war effort. And I want to emphasize that these photos that were requested in this case are not particularly sensational, especially when compared to the painful images that we remember from Abu Ghraib," Obama said. "But they do represent conduct that did not conform with the Army Manual; that's precisely why they were investigated and, I might add, investigated long before I took office. And, where appropriate, sanctions have been applied.
“It’s therefore my belief that the publication of these photos would not add any additional benefit to our understanding of what was carried out in the past by a small number of individuals. In fact, the most direct consequence of releasing them, I believe, would be to further inflame anti-American opinion and to put our troops in greater danger. Moreover, I fear the publication of these photos may only have a chilling effect on future investigations of detainee abuse.”
Is rape "sensational" ... someone answer that please.
..might have worded that differently.

Think troops were raping Rackies and taking pictures?
I think not. Humiliating prisoners was considered legit.
I call bullshit on the rape.

As for the rape, maybe someone is making the accusation to force the photos to be disclosed.
For example: If your accuse your girlfriend of having photos sleeping with your best friend. She denies you and shows you the pictures to prove you wrong only to see her kissing your best friend.

I'm outraged by the fact that the Americans in the photos raped people while they were acting as agents of the American government, wearing uniforms with American flags on them. They raped people in America's name. Doesn't that make your blood boil?lowing wrote:

Yours and all the others inconsistent and selective outrage would be quite amusing if it were not so ridiculously tragic..
The assholes who sawed off people's heads didn't act in America's name. They should be caught and locked up forever but they didn't damage my country the way the prison guards did.
what pictures?
Yea, I thought of that also. Some of the photos have been obtained and published, and I am sure Obama has been made aware of what all of the images contained. If they do show something like a rape I have to think he knowingly misled us when he said they were not worse then abu garhrib, or weren't sensational. I don't think Obama is that stupid. To say something like that with the possibility of a leak would be political suicide.Harmor wrote:

Well the fact that no WMD's were produced seems to be all the proof all of you need to know that they did not exist. Funny how no pics of rape being produced does not warrant the same consideration of non-existence. Oh well, selective outrage, I guess.Kmarion wrote:

You think that because there were photographs of WMD's presented to the UN by Powell then obviously they existed. Even if there was zero evidence on the ground of any wmd's and there has been zero evidence produced since 7 years of occupation.lowing wrote:

But at the same time, these photographs of prisoner abuse don't provide any evidence at all of torture.
Your not making sense. Do you still think there were WMD's? Do you still think that the torture of prisoners was just one or two bad eggs?

let me try again..
NO evidence of WMD's, to you means none existed
NO pics of rape, and you insist they exist.
This is what does not make sense. you believe what you choose to and do not stay consistent with any given facts
