And the Fords and GMs sold in the US are different to those sold in the rest of the world.
Some have gone global or been rebadged to be sold in different countries. The Holden Monaro is a good example, been rebadeged in Europe as the Vauxhall Monaro and the US as Pontiac GTO.
But on the whole, Europe and Australia share a lot of cars between Vauxhall/Opel/Holden and Ford Europe/Australia. But neither do much importing of GM/Buick/Cadillac/Chevrolet/GMC/Pontiac or Ford America/Lincoln/Mercury.
Heres a run down of the Ford cars sold in the US compared to UK and Australia.
US UK AUS F-150 Yes Flex Yes Focus (US) Yes Fusion (US) Yes Mustang Yes Taurus X Yes Taurus Yes Edge Yes Escape Yes Yes Explorer Yes F-250/350/450 Yes E series Yes Ranger Yes Yes Yes Ka Yes No longer sold Fiesta Mazda 3 (5 door) Yes Yes Fusion (Europe) Yes Old mazda 2 Focus (international) Yes Yes C-max Yes S-max Mazda5 (not sure) Yes Mondeo Yes Yes Galaxy Yes Kuga Yes Transit Yes Yes Falcon Yes Territory Yes
The same kind of thing happens in GMs line up of cars.
