Wantted to start a new post for this I started to get in a argument about it on an other thread.

So was america created by christians or what are your feelings about?

I myself am undecided at this point and will reasearch it down the line if I get time.

<sarcasm>Religion has nothing to do with it. if you are religious in america, you should be lynched.</sarcasm>

Why even bother with this thread?

Even though a mass majority of the colony population back then was some form of christian, this country was founded by Deists.  People who believe in a deity but don't follow a sectarian dogma.  It's a more naturalistic view of the world, and those beliefs were instilled into the Articles of Confederation and the later Constitution.  Many of the founding fathers and their influences were Freemasons, as well.

Remember, this country was founded to pull away from a Monarchy...a form of government in which it is believed that the person in power was appointed there by god himself and has strong ties with religion.  This country was founded to be a more natural society to promote liberty, and not founded to promote one line of philosophical thought over another.

The reason to bother with this thread number 1 is to kill time at work
and number 2 for a debate and serious talk.

Moving on

Obviously it was put there for Marconius and cpt.fass2 to continue a debate they started from a previously thread. Or either I'm wrong and its not so obvious.

Yeah, good idea Capt. Fass.  No matter how anyone tries to spin it, America just isn't a christian nation.

Deists did not follow any particular dogma, but many adhered to principles of Christian/western beliefs (from what I have heard)  It is hard to say that Christianity did not provide America's principles.  Christianity and Christian beliefs or principles played a part in most actions in that time period.  Whether this was intentional or unitentional is the real question.

I believe that, as America has become a more diverse country, those overtones have faded significantly.

That list only 3 of the many Founding Fathers that signed the Constitution, that does not include those who helped write it.  Even with the information that you wrote, why did the US Forefathers refer to Christian/Jewish religious text when choosing what to include in the Constitution?  Why did they not turn to the Qu'ran, or Hindu sacred text?

Someone stated that kings are appointed from God.  That was a Jewish believe.  Christians believe that leaders are appointed from God, now just kings.  That means that the forefathers could be choosen by God to lead/rule a nation.

Well, dubbs, the obvious answer is because the forefathers and many of the colonists grew up around Judeo/christian values; they weren't as well versed in world events and cultures as we are now.  There is no reason whatsoever to turn towards religious texts to define the frameworks of a nation anyways...you'd look towards Hammurabi's Code and the Democratic practices of the Greeks and Romans first.

I'm sorry, but the concept of "Kings" is exactly what the forefathers were drawing away from.  Just review the coronation of Kings and Queens in England, France, and Spain, plus review their ties with the strongest church in power at the time of their rise to power.  Your logic isn't really coherent in your last statement...sure, you can Believe that, and they themselves could have felt that they were urged on to Declare Independence from England from something higher than themselves (extremely unlikely, when regarding the Deist and Theist beliefs), but their purpose and intent was to create a society promoting both freedom of religion and freedom From religion.

I have trouble with Freemasons not being Christians, I have a grandfather back in the U.K. and he is a mason, he attends church every Sunday and is a Christian, being a mason and a Christian are not mutually exclusive.
