262 Confirmed cases, another 2500+ *possible* cases.
152 reported dead, but only *26* are confirmed to have died from the influenza subtype H1N1 virus (the swine flu strain)
Reports of infections (again, most arent confirmed) in 25 countries. Mexico is the ONLY country with ANY deaths, confirmed or otherwise.
The SARS pandemic of 2002-2003 (around 8 months) killed around 800 worldwide from around 8000 reported cases.
Meanwhile Malaria, TB, and Hepatitis continue to kill 1-3 million people each, every year.
We can all thank the sensationalist media of the US for whipping up the ignorant masses for us. Few people die in Mexico (thats never happened?) and a few in the US have some diarrhea and the sniffles. Gimme a break, I cant even watch the news anymore without every channel having some outrageously overblown story.
Oh and the Spanish Flu killed somewhere between 20-100 million people and spread all over the world, even to the arctic and remote pacific islands. Thats double the number dead from WWI. Its estimated that it infected 1 BILLION people, HALF of the Earth's population at the time. Experts believe it may have killed more people than the Bubonic Plague (Black Death). Now THAT is a pandemic.
