Didn't like that film much.  He alters the past, but doesn't alter his past in the future, so his second "It wasn't them" message never got to him and he died.  Wut.
But does he alter anything....?

Great film. Like every other film Terry Gilliam has ever made.
Well, yes, he sends his future self a message which would have arrived with his first message had he actually sent it.  He doesn't hear his own message saying that the 12 Monkeys has nothing to do with it, even though he sent both.  If you ignore the plot hole that one of his messages doesn't arrive while the other does, and then the first arrives and is heard by his cellmate, then the whole "around in a circle" thing works nicely.
Tbh that movie confused the fuck out of me when I saw it as a kid. Brad Pitt was funny though.

what is still unconfirmed, is said that patient zero came from california, he infected unprepaired medics and some sick poor people at a public hospital. From there it spreaded.
I would like this confirmed as well.  Because if this patient zero was able to travel freely back into the United States then they could spread it here, beyond what's already in New York.

Sgt. Sergio Bennet 3rd wrote:

what we know too  is that one french guy and one british guy got sick after arriving to their countries. considering the thousands of people that fly from mexico city airport to other countries, that is good news, and also, weird..
I think I saw a special some years ago where because we have international flights pandemics can start simultaneously around the world.

Sgt. Sergio Bennet 3rd wrote:

the virus is attacking people between 20 and 40 y.o., why?, because younger people has already on their systems the vaccine for influenza, not for this particular kind, but it is helping them some way to not getting sick.
im 35+ y.o. and i dont have that vaccine on my system. i got similar symptoms like 2 weeks ago. I overrided them by filling my system with vitamine C and A. This is something the government has asked us to do.
So two things, should we get the influenza shot?  And two, if you already have been exposed to the flu and your body has already repelled the attack, can we make a serum/vaccine from you?   Please?

Sgt. Sergio Bennet 3rd wrote:

our government has asked us to stay at our homes as long as possible and avoid conglomerates of people, like going to school, concerts, movies, sport events, etc.. too bad not going to work wasnt mentioned, i could go to cancun to "cool down". mexico city is windy these days and the virus is airborne. this is for precaution. if we have to get out, they recommend us to covers our nose and mouth. we cant get the virus through our skins.
I guess it maybe a good idea to remote desktop into work then, huh?

The latest

"Earlier today the European Commission said that there were no known cases in Europe, but within hours three suspected cases were being investigated in Spain, which has a large Mexican émigré population, in the cities of Bilbao, Valencia and Albacete. All three sufferers returned recently from Mexico. Spanish authorities are contacting passengers who were on the same flights." From Times online there are cases in Europe

"SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A Texas high school where two students are confirmed to have swine flu is temporarily closing after a new possible case of swine flu was identified there, state health officials announced Saturday." From Houston Chronicle So Texas has closed a high school.

If patient zero is from the US then things are going to get very interesting over the next week.

The the swine flu really bad or is it just like any other flu?  I mean people die from flu all the time, do we really lack the ability to kick it like we do any other flu?

I is thinking that this is a slow media week and in 2 weeks it will be just a memory.  Until I hear about 5k-40K deaths caused by it I don't see it being anything special.

The swine flu is what killed 40 miliion during WW1.

The 1917 swine flu had a 2% mortality rate. This one so far seems to be about 7%.

It is spreading like wildfire, and now we have a global shitstorm on our hands.

Flu shots are pretty worthless, in a short-term sense, as there are so many variations of the virus because it mutates so rapidly.  So any time you get a "flu shot", what you are getting is minimal exposure to whatever flu strains are predicted to be prevalent during that particular flu season.

And for that reason, if you don't usually get flu shots, but during a year that is predicted to be worse than usual you go ahead and do get one, you really aren't much safer than had you done nothing.

Flu shots work optimally if you get them every year, because they typically make them from a mix of various, commonly-encountered strains, and so over time you get exposed to a wider variety of influenza viruses and your long-term "library" of antibodies builds up, making you more resistant to a larger number of strains.

The problem with flu - and the reason that fearing a pandemic is at least somewhat justified - is that strains like this that are mixes of influenza from different types of animals, that suddenly mutate and gain the ability to affect humans, are typically not that similar to those strains used to formulate vaccines.

As a society we tend to think of influenza as not that bad of a issue because it's so common to hear "Oh, I just had a minor case of 'stomach flu'..." (there is no such thing as "stomach flu", btw...), or because many cases involve the more common strains that are much more treatable.

But if you get hit with a flu strain that is unusual/new, then you have a very serious illness to deal with, and hospitalization may very well be in your near future.

Though this is certainly serious, I'll have to wait and see before I believe any possible pandemic scenario. I remember when the media hyped up the Avian Flu pandemic that was on its way to ravage the UK, yet to happen.

That was told at our news last thursday but it hasnt been recalled. Last we heard is that he died here in mexico.

the influenza shot that already exists and is given to kids 3 times before getting 10 y.o., is for avial influenza, not for porcine or the mutated class that has appeared. What has been tested is that this vaccine, plus vitamin A and C in high doses, stops the symptoms, for kids. For adults is different, you have 48 hours after the first symptoms to go to a hospital and get special treatment, the avial inluenza vaccine is applied plus another one (i dont recall the name) and vitamins. The symptoms go away in 3 days, but you have to keep getting vitamin C for like 15 days, like having a XL orange juice everyday.
Im not sure i had influenza. I had similar symptoms, except the diarrea. we who live at mexico city, as soon as we start getting a cold (changing weather and temperature at this time of the year), we fill our systems with vitamin C and medicines for cold. we dont go to the doctors in this cases. Our mistake.

i think that is been revisited by our government. Maybe they will call for it next wednesday, depending of what happens monday and tuesday, when people go back to work. The people that uses the subway are the ones that has us very worried, considering rush hours, when the subway is at 95% full..

I am going out today and buying multivitamins for us and kids.  Also getting anti-bacterial hand wipes to carry in cars and the kids won't be going in public places (ie toy isle at Wal-Fart).  I am going to try to keep us somewhat safe for a couple weeks incase all the hospitals fill up from this shit and we start seeing deaths in the US.  Lots of filthy fucking illegals in the schools around here and it should spread like wildfire judging by the hygene of people around here.  I may keep the kids out of school a few days here to see what is up, when you here about a class of 25 coming down sick you see the potential of this virus.

God damned Mexicans.  We need to build a dam across the pacific!  20 metres above and below sea level, .50cal sentry guns every 100 metres, backed by floating unmanned 155mm cannons and UAVs!  I'll get some mates together, we can take boats and Lee Enfields out there until the wall is built.

Its supposed to have originated from California. May be the California strain was mild and it went down to Mexico and mutated.

I think that based on the fact that the only deaths have been in Mexico and all cases thus far north of the border have been rather slight--even in comparison to standard flu--it's a bit too early to call out the catastrophe club.
