US to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

FoxNews wrote:

US military forces already run limited operations on Pakistani soil along the border with Afghanistan, but an overt military operation such as that threatened in Swat, away from the border, would mark a major escalation.

America made clear last week that it would attack Taliban forces in their Swat valley stronghold unless the Pakistan government stopped the militants' advance towards Islamabad.

A senior Pakistani official said the Obama administration intervened after Taliban forces expanded from Swat into the adjacent district of Buner, 60 miles from the capital.

The Pakistani Taliban's inroads raised international concern, particularly in Washington, where officials feared that the nuclear-armed country, which is pivotal to the U.S. war against the Taliban in Afghanistan and against Al Qaeda, was rapidly succumbing to Islamist extremists.
"The implicit threat - if you don't do it, we may have to - was always there," said the Pakistani official. He said that under American pressure, Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency told the Taliban to withdraw from Buner on Friday.
Comment: Oh fuck...I guess Obama wasn't bluffing when he promised to invade Pakistan!

Correct.

No srsly, if there's even a smidgen (yes, a smidgen) of a chance that the Taliban can get near the nukes...you go the fuck in there and wipe them the fuck out.

If the Taliban take over and get nukes you can bet that the US, India, Russia and China will all be nervous. One launch from Pakistan I bet all four countries nuke the shit outta the new Talibanistan.

well it depends who Pakistan how they feel about other countries.

U.S. would be #1 number one contender since they invaded ME, then other Western countries, Israel would be up there 2 after U.S. or if not before since Mulsims and Jews dont like each other.

I already told my mom I'm taping up all the windows with plastic wrap like they told us to do during the chem-attack scare in '01-'02.

Of course they found that would be extremely counter productive and you'd suffocate yourself, but oh well.

S3v m8 it's a single front. Pull all the troops out of Afghanistan, spend a few months building up troops and supplies in Iraq then do this...

Iraq->Iran->Afghanistan->Pakistan. We could call it the West's Tour of the Middle East and offer it to young hippy types as a free tour of the Islamic world.

Well, if anything will pull us out of this recession, a large-scale war certainly will.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency told the Taliban to withdraw from Buner on Friday.
And the Taliban so easily listen to them, because they actually did retreat from that province recently. No surprise there, the ISI and the Taliban are good chums. They're playing a balancing act and trying to play the US whilst also being friendly to the Taliban. The anti-American/pro-Taliban/pro-extremist thought is already there within their military, intelligence, populace and government. What the Taliban want out of everything is for the US to invade Pakistan properly and just start a massive war, and also include India (instigate India into invading Pakistan) to further enhance the whole nationalism islamic jihad stuff, tbh, if this all ends without some major war I'd be surprised

The Taliban have been pushed towards Pakistan by the US forces. It's not something that the Pakistan government has been encouraging the terrorists to do. They know how dangerous the Taliban are. What Pakistan doesn't want however is an incursion of US forces on it's own sovereign soil. Whenever the US has struck within Pakistan to claim terrorists the end result has been civilian casualties.

And Mek if you think India and Pakistan are chummy with each other or the terrorists you have no idea what you are talking about. India and Pakistan both have nukes, pointed at each other...

Now with your edit it makes more sense. It looked like you said the Taliban want the US to start a war against Pakistan and draw in India, I assumed you meant as allies due to the "to enhance the whole nationalism islamic jihad stuff" since India has a very significant Muslim population.

The Taliban have always lived in those areas. They aren't being "pushed towards Pakistan"--they originated there.

The ISI has no problems with the Taliban...never has. Who do you think supported them when they went in and took over Afghanistan?

Your assessment/characterization of US strikes in Pakistan is simply wrong. Yes, there have been civilian casualties, but to call them "the end result" is willfully dismissing the actual targets of the strikes and the impact (no pun intended) their deaths have made to the AQ and Taliban capabilities.

As for India, I don't see them engaging with Pakistan unless they feel existentially threatened.

No in terms of enhancing the whole Islamic Jihad crap because India would probably be the "ultimate" country to rouse the whole Jihad crap around the Muslim world, especially in these times and especially if fighting with the USA.

For them, the idea of the Hindu nation (it's only 13% muslim or some shit) attacking them is worse than Jews or Israel or anything. Alot of them in Pakistan have this sense of racial and religious superiority (even the name Pakistan means Land of the Pure or some shit) and that's why they've always thought of India as the big enemy

I bet Taliban dont even have a simple clue how to launch those nukes. They will probably blow their own ass in a case they come closer to nukes.

The problem though is that as the Taliban works with Al-Qaeda, they will have links with a lot of educated but radical individuals, including scientists. They could pull those people in or force those who know how to operate the nukes to do so or they have insiders already in the Pakistani military who can do that for them.

Pakistani ISI;
Tons of information, all for sale to the highest any bidder.
But not a clue to be bought for any price.

In other words, as I've said before;
If the Pakistani ISI knows about it, it may as well be on eBay

During the 1970's and 1980's Afghani-Soviet war, 90% of every dollar the US/CIA put through the Pakistani ISI to help the Afghani ... got lost.
90%.  Poof.  Gone.  Rerouted to the wrong people.
this is a large part of the reason the US is disliked in that region, by so many people.  This was our step zero: mother of all fuckups in the middle east - trusting the Pakistani ISI with anything of importance.

Major error #2:
US Middle East policy from 1970-1991; "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"
Bullshit.
The enemy of my enemy is NOT my friend.
The enemy of my enemy may well be my enemy too.  There is such thing as a three-way fight, if one can count past two.
Don't help one minor enemy against another -- set it up so both enemies destroy each other.
