"...the report by the Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines "rightwing extremism in the United States" as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority.  "It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single-issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration," the warning says.

Personally I don't see why someone who bombs an abortion clinic or an army recruiting centre or something like that shouldn't be grouped with people like Al Qaeda and be considered extremists

There's alot of things that the US face in terms of extremists that are much more of a danger/more widespread than the crazy muslims

WAKE UP CALL: TEXAS GOV. BACK RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY
Tue Apr 14 2009 08:44:54 ET

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Perry continued: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas."

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

Could this be the beginning of the breakup of the US? Was that crazy Russian guy really right all along...

Personally I think it's stupid, you didn't see the Blue/Leftist states going through such extreme measures/talk when Bush was in power, but as soon as someone with a left wing streak gets the Federal seat shit starts to go crazy

Of course it is extreme! Gun rights, state's rights, and freedom of speech are just a few things that these radical right-winged militia members are talking about...

Actually, I think it is more like:

Right-wing nutjob mentality:

Questioning the Government over a war that potentially violated constitution rules on the issue of clear and present danger = anti-American.

Demanding secession from the United States and rejecting the authority of the Federal Government = patriotic.

This is the beginning of totalitarianism.  Those that cried 'Profiler' by race, sex or age -now turn a blind eye to an injustice far worse.  It's the thought police.

I don't understand people who don't support abortion.

Here's a dandy idea, if you don't support abortion don't get one. Not specifically aimed at you Sting because I don't even know your personal stance, it's just my take on the whole issue.

As I said in the other thread - this type of action has been taking place for at least the last 50 years.  You just might not have had a problem with it until the government started targeting groups you may agree with.  So not the beginning, probably not even the end.  It's business as usual for the government - dissent and/or think radically and you will be watched.

Apparently, Rick Perry is trying to kill both his chances at re-election and at running for the presidency in one fell swoop.
