The sole purpose of Digital to analog converter is just what its initials say. DAC does not output any power, thats why we use amps. What DAC does output is not power but signal. Every signal needs to get amplified if you want to hear sound and standalone DACs don't have amplifiers hence no volume knob on any of them.
Analogue audio "signal" is the same as what you get out of the amplifier, just weaker. There are single-chip DACs with a powerful-enough output to drive a pair of headphones.

Normal headphones don't need a lot of power to run. You can plug an amplifier into an MP3 player without turning the volume to the bottom.
If I understand you correctly plugging headphones into Passive RCA out will power them? Is that what you are saying?
It all depends on how the output source is designed. Many DACs and such are current-limited, as they're made to power loads of a couple of kilo-Ohm, such as amplifiers. Others are designed to power <100Ohm loads, and are thus much more powerful. There is more than one kind of DAC out there, you know. It's an active component.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Freezer stop regurgitating your school-electronics lessons on this tech-epeen thread, no one cares. Take it to your own geeky electronics discussion! Jesus it's almost as bad as the over-contrived audiophilia craze! Jesus Christ, one whole page talking about DAC and electronics-physics theory.

SHUT THE FUCK UP.

If it doesn't have a picture or a hefty-huge pricetag, we don't care.

I don't know what is so difficult to understand about posting about, not arguing about what tech stuff you bought. Take it somewhere else.

Also bought a PS3 remote, was pretty cheap-19€. A lot easier to navigate with one hand than with two (using default PS3 controller)

Since it says its 1080P i'm guessing its 1920x1080. My monitor is this resolution and i haven't had any problems with games... except bf2 but meh don't play it anyway.

Well if you play a game that doesn't support widescreen, then you SHOULD be able to set up the monitor to just put black bars on the side. I mean, you can do it with a TV ...

Ease of use does tend to make using a device much more enjoyable. If Linux was more user friendly, it'd be more popular.

Why do you think the iPod got so popular?

The iPod was basically the first mobile music player featuring a GUI. That made it immensely popular, and Apple is still riding that wave.

Okay, I'll take this one.

It's not as user friendly as Windows or OSX.

It is. People are just used to OSX or Windows, and because Linux doesn't behave similarly they automatically think it's non-user-friendly.

Is using a package manager more unfriendly than having to search for applications to perform something online?

Just go to synaptic package manager, search for something, and more likely than not there is an app there that will do that job for you.

Give me a reason Linux is less user friendly than OSX or Windows.

Try installing a Wacom tablet.
Or getting a Synaptics touchpad to work properly.
