So I installed BF2, patched it to 1.41 version, switched it to run in the Administrator mode, I have Windows Vista by the way, home premium. And I have actually figured out and traced why is the reason it is crashing to desktop when I play online and only online, I tried single player, and it works fine, never crashed, but whenever I join online, after 2 minutes of playing a game, it crashes to desktop.
  So thought it might be Punkbuster, even though I updated it to the last version and it worked fine for 1 day, I could play online normally. And then all of the sudden the next day, it just started crashing, no idea why, and I know 100% it is PUNKbuster, because i tried to play on servers without punkbuster, and it doesn't crash, so I try to troubleshoot, by deleting some files in punkbuster folder, it worked for 10 min but still kept crashing. so I know it is punkbuster, anyone knows how to fix this issue?


by the way I have 3 gigs of ram, and I know it is not video card, because I played bF2 fine for a day without any crashes.

Delete pb. Remove it from your pc.
Then install again.

Remove it by using pbsvc (punk buster service setup). Choose un-install. Restart pc, and then install it again using the same application.

-worked for me.

go to "my documents" and delete the bf2 folder, relaunch the game, you have to redo your graphics and controls settings but it should eliminate the CTD

okay guys, so it started happening again! this is some kind of bullshit!! punkbuster is a real pain in the ass!!!
so I tried removing the bf2 folder from my documents and it doesn't work anymore!!!!

Beduin, do I just go to my EA folder in program files , and find pb folder and delete it completely? be specific please.
really want to fix it .. I honestly want to punch the developer of the punkbuster lol

Get this : http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

1.Run it and
2.Choose Un-install/Remove punkbuster.
3.Press finish.
4.Close the program.
5.Run it again.
6.Choose Install.
7.Run the test.
8.Press Finish
9.Go and play

Get this : http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

1.Run it and
2.Choose Un-install/Remove punkbuster.
3.Press finish.
4.Close the program.
5.Run it again.
6.Choose Install.
7.Run the test.
8.Press Finish
9.Go and play

Hey, I'm having this problem too, and so is my roommate. We've uninstalled/reinstalled PB, manually and then with the pbsvc. We've also done fresh installs of BF2, deleted the my docs folder, everything I've seen on this forum thus far.

I'm here too now.  I installed a replacement motherboard. CTD's.

Yeah, I'm guaranteed that it's punkbuster, because when I play in a single player game, or in a nonpb server then it doesn't crash. This is ultra fail.

This is annoying.  I'm going to try uninstall PB and then reinstall and see if anything changes.  Thanks for the help thus far.

EDIT:  Still kicking me to the desktop...ugh

k this is some fucking bullshit. I played fine yesterday, but now I am crashing to desktop after joined online server and being 10-15 second in the game. crash.
anyone know a new method to fix it ?
