While trying to play a BF2SF match last night which I hardly ever play I would load up, then verify client data, then as soon as it says join game , it exits me to desktop closing the game... I did this 6 times before i said screw it.. I rebooted, and all things possible....

I had a similar problem. If I joined BF2 or BF2 SF servers or even single player the game crashed to the desktop. I did fix it. See if this works for you. Download your video cards newest driver from its site. DONT INSTALL. Find where your previous are and manually delete them. Reboot. Then install the new driver. If your problem is like mine that should do it.
