Being reasonable is sometimes a very burdensome thing. The benefit to things like this, however, is that hardliners are typically unable to come up with much of a counter.

For example, all the Taliban could say about his response concerning moderate Taliban members was that Obama was being illogical. If you read between the lines, it's basically a desperate attempt by fanatics to distract people from a reasonable response.

As always, diplomacy is a slow process that only bears fruit after an extended amount of time. Patience is of the utmost importance.

Yeah but, this is dealing with leaders who seem more likely to avoid any diplomatic method if it means they have to play down their hard man stature.

Yes, but when they do that, they begin to lose their support among the public.

The average Iranian is already much more moderate than the Ayatollah or Ahmadinejad. By taking the opposite approach from aggression, this makes it harder for the Iranians to demonize us and slowly forces their government to act less fanatically.

Even though Iran has a faux democracy, it still has to somewhat behave like a real one.

For having them for a few decades each, just over for Pakistan and India, they haven't yet. But they also don't seem to be the ones who have been linked time and time again to supplying high-end weaponry to groups like Hamas, Hezbollah and groups inside Iraq.

Speaking of being incoherent, would you care to explain your response?

I just mentioned that Israel and Pakistan have nukes. If Iran gets them, it's not going to change much. People keep assuming that Iran would give nuclear materials to terrorists. If you're willing to make that assumption, you've got an equal amount of reason to assume that Pakistan would do the same, primarily because Pakistan has a less stable government and their equivalent of the CIA (the ISI) has many people sympathetic to groups like the Taliban.

So again, if Iran gets nukes, what changes? As far as I can tell, Iran would simply be able to keep anyone from hastily invading them.

The risk is still there. New governments/extremist factions. What if Pakistan does collapse? The French had a big role in Israel's early nuclear development. Having nuclear power/weapons for decades doesn't guarantee anything as far as proliferation of nuclear weapons goes. For all Canada's talk they played a nice little role in India's development. I'm not sure Iran would flog them off either, I mean look at the way AQ backfired on Saudi Arabia after all the funding their Intelligence service sent to Afghanistan during the war with the Soviets. Would they be keen to make the same mistake? I'm not sure Ahmadinejacket wants an Israeli nuke put through his office window, for all his talk.

USA wouldn't have had a problem if the dictatorship they put in was still there tbh.

Persian new year? I'd imagine that this....Persian New Year is something that stems from pre-Islamic times, why would they be celebrating it? Surely it goes against their strict Islamic values, and a reminder of their heathen non-Islamic past (that is, before the Arabs came and kicked their arse and converted them to Islam)

You really think that Iran is suicidal? Look, the Ayatollah is definitely an extremist, but he's not stupid. As a previous post pointed out, Iran likes to feign being tough. Why? Because its leaders thrive on paranoia -- much like some of our own.
