Silly ATG, we atheists don't know what happens to us when we die, and don't claim that we do, either.
Wrong. That's an agnostic.

Atheists, to my knowledge, claim that there's nothing after death. You just die. No God. No soul. No mysterious dimension of the dead.
what happens after we die and the existence of god(s) are two separate questions.
Point conceded.

Atheists just deny the existence of a God/Gods. Seems the... I'll call it the compost theory, goes hand in hand with that for most though.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

This is news to me, as a young person of course. It may not dawn to the religious but there are many more atheist and agnostics out there then you think there are. The young people are the few with the balls to say it.

It's trendy, precisely because young people view it as "having the balls to say it".

Ugh trendy? Did you just choose to disregard the second sentence? I doubt any truly religious person would deny their God in public in order to be trendy.

How is atheism trendy? I don't believe in a higher being or subscribe to a religion, it's that simple. If you want to believe in a higher being then go for it. Just don't shove it down my throat; I won't do that with my beliefs.

I wasn't baptized as a child because my parents wanted me to choose what religion, if any, I wanted to believe in. I haven't been particularly swayed by any religion, and as such I'm an atheist. It's not a matter of fitting in, it's a matter of simply being what I am.

But children growing up with religious parents would turn to atheism solely to go against their parents, and their friends would be compelled to do likewise.

What's a matter, did you just realize that claiming to be an atheist without having read the Bible means your whole point of view is based on ignorance?

Nice assumption there. I went to CCD every week till I was confirmed. I know plenty about the bible. I was asking which version would edition are we going to go by? So many different branches of Christianity and so many things taken out of the bible and other stuff added. It gets confusing which version is generally accepted.

Your Childhood doesn't concern me.
Seriously though, I think you are under estimating other people's ability to make up their own minds on things and assuming how everyone works based on some philosophy books you've read.

My childhood? what the fuck? Though I do appreciate you giving my Childhood the respect it deserves with the capitalization.

You highly underestimate the influence of parents on their children.

So in that case all of your views are based on what your parents think or are they based on your want to rebel against your parents?
Or are you such an advanced being above all others that only you can make up your mind on things at a young age?

Speaking of God, there was just a Chuy spotting.

I'm just saying, most people who have hardcore beliefs, the ones that I have met, have a limited amount of input about other beliefs and histories.

Here is where the argument from both sides lie. People we've met. We generalize both religious and non-religious groups based on the actions and knowledge of a few.

The only stupid questions are questions that aren't asked. Then what is stupid? Stupid defined by ones views or beliefs? Consider the question then in a general form aside from this discussion.

Don't think it's trendy.  I think it's the default choice now.
Where in previous generations, people were generic Christians by default, the current generation of Americans is probably Atheist or Agnostic by default.
