I don't see that as a problem.
Hinder the opposition working towards journalists who give interviews that mean something by throwing the dog of public opinion a worthless bone.
People should not want their serious news/interviews on satirical news shows. When these shows venture into that territory people should boo and ratings should drop. It's a ridiculous venue to be watching these questions be asked on, to the point that everyone who listens to the actual news should dismiss it and everyone who just watches the funny news shows should be annoyed by it.
Instead people cheer that at least someone is asking these questions. The people are happy and content, or at least more so. That hurts the ability of public opinion to force news networks back into the territory they're supposed to be in.
Instead of fixing the root of the problem, Stewart put some duct tape over it so that we will be forced to limp along even longer. He should have continued his harsh (but funny) criticism of the system itself, instead of stepping up himself and trying to do something about it. As well-intentioned as it was, it did more to hurt his cause of more responsible media reporting than to help it.
That said it was a good interview, he did a great job as he always does. I wish he would do that on a show dedicated to the purpose.

I can see where you're coming from, but you seem to be approaching this from the idea that it will change eventually....
It won't....
It won't....
Then shoot yourself now and save yourself the trouble.
Why? The quality of news has little effect on my quality of life as an individual.
The ramifications of a world that can't even disseminate information appropriately to its people, much less provide adequate levels of analysis for those that want it, are much more extensive and dire than the direct impact the news has on your life.
Flaming, I think you and I can agree that the world is fucked up, but that shouldn't keep you from at least attempting to enjoy the short time we have on this planet.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

It should utterly preempt it.
How do you enjoy a fucked up world without being fucked up yourself?

Your view of existence would seem to be rather idealized. In reality, it's not really that simple.
Besides, I think we all enjoy a little twistedness sometimes. For example, my sense of humor can be rather fucked up at times.

For me... it's because I'm happy that my life is so much better than that of most people in this world. Perspective is often what gives us the ability to enjoy ourselves.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

Granted, I'd probably feel quite differently if I lived in a place like Sudan.
Haha, I've always felt that my perspective is what makes me understand how utterly absurd the human rat race is.
You're not alone in that perception....
No, but the disturbing part is I'm not alone and it hasn't made a difference as of yet.Turquoise wrote:

I think this could be as much a personal thing as anyone else. It's common knowledge that the Daily Show and the Report are their hosts' personal kingdoms, and I think this was at least partially about Stewart answering his own questions himself. Plus, I think it comes down to the fact that Stewart sees himself as intelligent enough to do serious journalism, he just doesn't want to do it all the time.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.

that's the greatest joke of all. all our technology and all our globalization has made us more aware than ever of how terrible life can be. and we still don't care. we close our eyes even tighter.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

smile. you know the punchline.
When you do serious journalism, everytime you make a mistake you end up on his show.Spark wrote:
