No siree. Don't subscribe to anyone - not anyone - being deemed 'more important' than anyone else. I don't give a fuck if it was Jesus himself who had shoes thrown at him: first offence for a petty crime - he should be fined and perhaps givne a suspended sentence or some community service - like in any normal country. Waste of a cell imo.
Well, I'd argue that that shoe was thrown pretty hard then.  His aim was to kill the man.  Attempted murder.  Life, we'll spare him the death penalty since it was his first offence.

So if you chucked something at a visiting head of state in Ireland, you wouldn't do any jail time?

You certainly would just about everywhere else in the world...if you were lucky.
If I threw a shoe at some randomer in the street would I do time - no I would not. I might get a fine or at the very worst a suspended sentence. What makes a President so special? I thought we were beyond the age of kings? The point stands - this is pathetic.

What's pathetic is your measure of justice. Shoe throwing = three years. Some drug dealers, who have destroyed countless lives, do less. Typical lowing. Is this some conservative thing where 'the leader' must be exalted as some extra special person with special laws associated with him?

The fact he is an elected official who makes all the really big decisions of a country perhaps? There's a reason he has an army of bodyguards. Also the reason you get a fine or suspended sentence in Ireland is because the judicial systems these days suck balls. They give killers 18 months sometimes. Assault is assault, if I threw a spoon at someone, its assault, if I spit on someone its assault. If I throw not one but two big ass boots at someone, its assault.

A boot thrown from that distance could kill you, it could knock him over and cause him to hit his head, a sufficient impact on the head could also do damage. You can kill someone with just about anything, just because it wasn't a tapered metal cylinder flying from a gun doesn't mean it won't kill or do serious harm.

Assault is assault. Or is it not assault because its George Bush.

Yeah great double standards there Poe.
lol. How many people charged with and found guilty of assault in the UK get let off with a slap on the wrist or a fine. Fucking tonnes. 3 years for throwing shoes at someone - ridiculous. Efficient and worthy use of prison space? lol. How about filling the jails with Al Qaeda or drug dealers, eh....?
No its better to nail drug dealers or Al Qaeda than stick them in a cell and look after them.

nope, he is a head of state, it was assault. If you think that will not draw more attention than throwing a shoe at your wife, then you are not living in the realm of reality.

You're far more likely to kill a man with your fist than with a shoe thrown from a distance. And yet people who assault people with fists as a first time offence get measured sentences in our nations. Certainly nowhere near three years.

That's what vices and deputies are for. No-one on this planet deserves special treatment. Perhaps I'm just to much of a believer in equality of rights and an abhorrence of subservience to people who I put into office to work FOR me and get WELL PAID into it. I never said it wasn't assault (attempted assault actually). What I think is pathetic is the disproportionate sentence.

Oh ok - so you are a lesser being than a head of state. He is better than you. OK, I get it. Perhaps you should prostrate yourself in front of the Obama. Somewhat ironic given your incessant Messiah charges.

He couldn't get that close so he opted for the shoe toss.  The man didn't assault anyone in our nations.  It was their laws, we should respect them.

Perhaps the President of Iraq should heed the giant groundswell of support for a pardon to be given? That's legal too...

They get tiny sentences because the system that provides the sentences sucks balls these days. Ever notice when they have murder trials on the news and the family and relatives are always disgusted with the short terms handed out? A punishment is a punishment, not a three week break fully paid and cared for.

Not when it comes out of the average Joe's pocket to pay for someone who would have detonated himself in a crowd of people, planned mass murder, a beheading or kidnapping or in the case of a drug dealer, sell illegal substances that can cause further death and unrest. So yeah in the case of these two groups I'd rather they meet with the buisness end of a rifle than someones wallet.

Keep licking em boots. Taste good? Why a person you elect to represent you should be subject to a special distinct set of laws is not what I thought the American way of 'equal rights and equal opportunity' was all about. Hmmm..

In your world all you need is plexiglass and security guards, if those fail like in this case, you just fine the person $15 a throw and let the carnival begin.

Dude. He is the President, of course he is more worthy. He is a head of state of another country. Whether we can debate about equality all day, we all know presidents get special treatments.

Special treatment like personal security, dedicated transport, accommodation, communications and other services - not special treatment under the law: that's called monarchy.
